You Know You're a 90's Kid If...

By Nicole Hillstead on June 21, 2012

My birthday happens to be in February of ’92 which means that I lived through and grew up in the 90’s, if you were so lucky to have done the same you might enjoy this walk down memory lane.

You know you’re a 90’s kid if…

  • You read the series “Goosebumps” because it was the cool thing to do
  • You remember watching Family Matters, Step by Step, and Boy Meets World
  • You collected Pokémon cards regardless of the fact that you had NO IDEA how to play
  • The most dramatic game was the Oregon Trail because people actually died!
  • You remember owning a boom box and being stoked to get a new CD player instead
  • You played and collected Pogs
  • You wanted a Furby more than you wanted a real pet
  • You had at least one Tamagotchi, GigaPet or Nano and it came with you everywhere
  • You know the sound dial up internet makes
  • All of your school supplies were the brand “Lisa Frank”
  • Beanie Babies couldn’t stay on toy store shelves
  • You would get up extra early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons
  • The phrase “then why don’t you marry it” was a common come back
  • Your leggings as a kid had straps that went under your feet

The list goes on…

So what will the next generation have to say? Will they shortly be coming up with lists stating “you know you were a millennium baby if..?” It’s amazing to think about how much can change in just 10 years and how quickly our technology is moving. The internet alone has grown exponentially in the last decade and will continue to do so as younger and younger people learn how to use and manipulate its features. The question in my mind is how fast will things move before they slow down? Will each generation continue to create newer and newer ways of doing things so quickly that your everyday items become like purchasing a car; as soon as it’s purchased the value depreciates?

At least for those of us that remember the 90’s we can look back on the good old days when life was a little bit simpler and snail mail was the only version of mail that existed.
