Your Graduation Checklist
Graduation is that time of the year that is both exciting and emotional at the same time. If you have made it this far, congratulate yourself!
However, if it’s almost that time of the year for you, make sure you go about it the proper way. Here is a graduation checklist for you. These following tips are something everyone should do to ensure that they have a smooth graduation process!
1) Meet with your advisors to make sure you fulfilled all requirements. It’s smart to do this the semester before you graduate. This way, when you register for your last semester, you know what classes you need to take.
Here are the following requirements that you may have to meet to graduate:
- General classes (English, history, math, foreign language, etc.)
- Major classes
- Minor classes
- Any sort of workshop classes your college may require you to take, such as freshman seminar classes.
2) Find out how exactly to graduate. This may sound a little silly, but graduation is not just walking and getting your diploma on a warm day in June. You have to apply. Find out how applying for graduation works in your college. Most schools, such as CCNY, have instructions on how to apply for graduation on their website.
3) Check the academic calendar for your school and find out when graduation is. Mark this date on your calendar — because it surely is an important one! Also, make sure you let your family and friends know when your graduation ceremony is, so that they can come cheer you on.
4) Find out other important dates, deadlines, and graduation related treats or events taking place. Many things come with graduation. Here are a few to help you out:
– Picture day: If you want to take professional graduation pictures for you to purchase later on, find out what days the professional photographers are coming to your campus.
– Senior ring: If you want to get a senior ring, find out how from your college! Most ring companies usually advertise on campus with flyers and brochures, so be on the lookout.
– Cap and gown purchasing/measurement: You definitely cannot attend graduation without a cap and gown. Make sure you know how you can go about purchasing one.
– Graduation cords: If you are in any kind of clubs, or honor societies, you may be able to receive a cord to represent that achievement!
Let this checklist be a guide towards graduation. Since these are some of the key checkpoints, always follow up with your college to ensure that your graduation plan runs smoothly. Good luck!
