9 Lessons That College Taught Me
As my time here at Florida State University comes to an end in April, I look back and reflect upon the many things that have happened to me while I’ve been given the opportunity to attend this beautiful school. Even though I’ve only had the chance to be here for two years, I’ve had many experiences that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
1. Not everyone you meet will become your best friend.
You know the saying, “You’ll meet your best friends when you enter college” …well that didn’t happen for me. I’ve met some pretty incredible people who I’ve enjoyed spending my time with, but I did learn that everyone you meet won’t stick around forever. Especially those that you meet the first few weeks that you attend your university.
2. Have the courage to be yourself.
I don’t think I could stress that statement enough. When I first entered Florida State, I was intimidated and shocked by all the gorgeous girls that went here. I felt the need to try and be someone I wasn’t, but in reality people will be attracted to the best version of yourself. So if you want to rock some pajamas to class when you’re feeling lazy, go for it, 9/10 times no one will even care.
3. Take every opportunity you are given.
Never say “no” to anything, unless it’s dangerous of course. Involve yourself in as many activities as you possibly can while you’re here. Sports, clubs, jobs, internships, DO IT ALL MY FRIENDS.
4. Enjoy the delicious local restaurants.
I completely fell in love with all the delicious restaurants that are exclusive to Tallahassee only. While I do tend to generally eat healthy, I felt the need to binge out on yummy local eatery shops like Donut Kingdom and Prime Time.
5. Manage your time.
My fall semester was a little stressful due to the fact that I was involved in so many clubs. Don’t ever let that be a reason to slack in school though, just manage your time and make sure you get the chance to study for school as well. You won’t regret it.
6. Get to know your professors.
Yes, it’s a little intimidating at first to build a relationship with your professor who is teaching over a thousand other students as well, but it’s completely worth it in the end. They end up being great mentors, and they could even write a recommendation letter for you
7. Have fun.
Go out & explore every aspect of life while you can. Remember to just manage your time and be safe.
8. Workout & eat healthy.
Don’t ever let the freshman 15 catch up to you. I combated that myth by losing 45 pounds during my college experience, and you can do it to. Just hit the gym as much as you can and keep a moderately healthy lifestyle.
9. Take naps.
Tired? Take a nap.
Just got back from school? Take a nap.
Hungry? Take a nap.
Whatever the reason may be, just take a nap.
