5 Tips For Staying Motivated During The Spring Semester

By Emily Mattice on January 13, 2016

After a long and relaxing winter break, the spring semester of college finally rolls around. It is almost too hard to think about restarting a new semester, buying all new textbooks, and getting a whole new (and intense) load of homework and work. When being at home for so long with no worries or responsibilities, picking up a textbook is the last thing on your wish list.

Although the thought of starting school back up again may seem difficult during your month of much needed relaxation, once it begins, it’s really not as bad as it seems (fingers crossed). The key to a successful semester though, is keeping your motivation high and mighty. Setting yourself off to a positive start can have a heavy impact on your semester, as long as you stay motivated and determined!

Here are some helpful tips on how to do just that.

 1. Remember that you are at college for school.

I know, I know … sometimes it gets hard to remember why we really came to college. The distractions seem to increase, and we may lose sight of what is most important. Although having some fun is good, make sure to remember that school comes first!

2. Set realistic goals.

The key to becoming successful in college is to set realistic and attainable goals. Before this semester starts, maybe take a few minutes to think of what you would like to accomplish. Whether it be get better grades, workout more, etc., these goals will help you push your limits during your second semester, and overall do better and feel better.

3. Think positive.

So, you failed that huge bio test? Learn from your mistakes and move on. Instead of bringing yourself down this semester over little things, try to think positive … even when it seems impossible.

4. Practice time management.

Since being in college, I’ve learned that this practice might be the hardest. Try to find a balance of time for everything that you need to get done, and manage it efficiently. Don’t procrastinate! Setting aside a certain amount of time for important things (assignments, projects) can make you work harder, and get things done quicker. You’ll thank yourself in the end!

5. Believe in yourself.

The ultimate key to being motivated is believing in yourself! Tell yourself that you can do whatever you put your mind to, and that you can have an awesome semester!

If you follow these simple tips, you may just have your best semester yet!
