Bangtan Boys: The Most Beautiful Album of 2015
Bangtan Boys, or BTS, debuted in 2013 and with the support of their fan base, ARMY, and their management, Big Hit Entertainment, BTS quickly became successful rookies. Their music videos are so entertaining and enjoyable to watch that all of them have gone over the million watch mark. The videos have either very detailed storylines or intricate dancing, and the lucky ones have both. BTS’s music videos for Dope, Danger, and War of Hormone are very entertaining and have really fresh dance moves. The music videos for Run and I NEED U have more detailed story lines, but the live shows have their own choreography.
Despite the language barrier, a portion of the songs are sung and rapped in English, making it a Korean/English mix. Spitting Korean rhymes flows easily for the members of BTS, but the lyrics are not meaningless. This group, unlike most in Korea, write about what their current generation suffers through. They do not limit themselves to just current trending pop styles, they write about their lives, such as where they came from and where they want to go. In their most recent album they write about how hard it is for their generation to please their parents or elders, the effort that is put into school and their futures, and just wanting to enjoy their youth.
Rap is becoming more common in music because the people of South Korea can start to relate to the struggles of rap artist from the United States, with the turmoil on the border of South Korea and North Korea but currently there are protesters being attacked by the police. The struggles in South Korea are coming forward and these musicians have found an outlet to release that. To be as authentic as possible, the entire group went to Los Angeles and worked with Coolio and Warren G to learn about being authentic and genuine with their music, specifically their rap. After that guidance, more of their music became relatable because it has purpose.
On their new album, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life PT.2, the majority of the songs were written and produced by the members Rap Monster and Suga. Easily one of the best albums of 2015, the Bangtan Boy’s finished the second part album with a huge array of excellent background beats and personally written verses. With a majority of the vibe being modern day hip hop, the best songs off this award winning album will be the ones that have the feel and sound of progression.
The first song is called INTRO: Never Mind and has an old fashion hip hop feel with heavy beats and fashioned rhythm to the first rap verse. The introduction of the instruments adds an element of fuck rock and sets up the rest of the album to be quick and hard hitting, but then transitions into the next song Run, which is a significantly slower song. The intro rap is very impressive in the raspy tone, but soon escalates with a faster paced rap. The singing break downs are smooth and the chorus is addictive with its upbeat and sultry tone.
Butterfly, the third track, makes the audience feel transported onto a bed of roses and feathers with the sensation of floating because of the vocals harmonizing and delivering a soft and pleasant sound. The addition of the remixed background sounds really nice with the voices, putting out the sound of the urban hip hop feel. The fourth track is Whalien 52 and begins with a piano and a rap intro, creating a sound that is unique and enjoyed. The rap verses really move this song forward into a slow hip hop song, with the random moments of singing flowing throughout the song nicely.

Ma City, the fifth song, begins with a funky guitar and a pick up from the drums that sets up a nice remixed beat. The rap is amazing and contemporary, with the tones being funky but the best verse is by rapper Suga and is the perfect ending for the song. Silver Spoons is clearly the hype song of the album with an intro beat that is a banger and a killer rap intro. Including an easy build up towards the end of the song that renews the energy of the listener for the last remaining songs. Autumn Leaves, which is my favorite song the album, has a slow deep beat with soft, sultry singing continuously throughout the song. Suga’s soft rap is pleasant and perfectly fits this sing and sets up this track to easily be the best on the album, with the modern day hip hop style refreshing South Korea and all of K-Pop. The ending track, OUTRO: House of Cards, starts with a slow and soft piano and dark strings relaying the sounds of The Weeknd, and giving the album the perfect ending with a slow, sexy, and mature song.
This album is the perfect cross-over of K-Pop and hip-hop and correctly displays the attitude of youth and the urgency of living life in all aspects. BTS members and fans are very proud of this album because of the time and composition by the members during production to put in everything and all they had for this album. Unlike any album before, this album has its own melody and rhythm so unique that will create a change in how the music in Korea is seen, produced, and composed.
