Why You Should See Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Even If You’ve Never Seen Any of the Others)
*Before you start, don’t worry, no spoilers were used in the making of this article.*
Okay, so I recently saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens (I know, it took way too long) and it still has me reeling from everything that happened. There were series favorites, wonderful newbies, and cute tech characters. What is there not to see? Well, I’ll give you reasons that’ll have you agreeing with me and wishing you had already seen it even if you’ve never seen any of the others. (Whoops set the bar up real high, here we go!)
1. Some of the star characters are POC
That’s right, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o are all POC rocking their roles and displaying their talent. Even the three main characters aren’t white men, which is a change in this popular film series and not a change seen in most popular films. Isn’t it always great to see diversity?
2. Harrison Ford
He doesn’t even need an explanation, look at him! He defies the odds of aging.
3. So much action
If you love action packed movies, this is a great one to see! There are intense fight sequences and starfighter attacks that will satisfy your action tooth. There were some scenes where I wanted to find the stunt coordinators and give them a high five for the unexpected outcomes that brought collective “ooo’s” from the audience.
4. They had the beloved favorites
Even if you’ve never seen Star Wars, you’ve probably heard of the very vocal Chewbacca, the awesomeness that is Princess Leia, and the handsomeness that is Han Solo (as spoken about above already). They have such a delightful dynamic that has you laughing and tearing up at all the looks and quips they make. Always bow down to the legends.
5. Awesome (and cute) newbies
If you’ve happen to see any interviews with the Star Wars cast, you would see the hilariousness that is John Boyega as he claims he’s best friends with Harrison Ford. And did you see Adam Driver? Because I know a lot of girls have taken notice to the on screen bad boy. The interactions between the newbies and the veterans was great to see as well, such great acting and chemistry between the cast.
6. The music and cinematography
If you are a person that appreciates the arts, then you will definitely love the musical arrangements and beautiful cinematic shots displayed throughout the whole movie. The score was in close alignment with the mood and dramatics of the scenes and the story being told, which I couldn’t help but gush about being a music lover myself. There were multiple times I found myself just looking across the screen in awe of how realistic the movie seemed and how certain angle choices were so instrumental to certain plot points. Bravo!
6. And finally… Just cause it’s Star Wars. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
