A Note On Intersectionality
This is going to be more of an informational post, mostly because this is kind of a multifaceted topic.
As always, the definition: Intersectionality can be defined as the intersections between systems of oppression, often focusing on identity through race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and age.
I think intersectionality can often be a good way to recognize privilege within society.
Some examples of intersections of queer identities include:
*Middle class queer women
*Queer people of color
*Queer people with disabilities
*Transgender women of color
*Lower class bisexual men
And there are a lot more. Basically take all the possible categories of topics and you’ll find that there are a bunch of intersections.
However, intersectionality is not only seen within these categories. You can also see it in different identities such as the identity of:
–A college student
–Youth
–Artist
–Musician
–Writer or poet
–Fashion designer
–Activist
–Femme/butch
–Athlete
That list also goes on, probably even longer than the previous one. I don’t think that people often think of it, but your likes, careers, hobbies, and appearance can also be part of your identity. Of course, this is all your preference because it’s your identity.
