1. Our Daily Bread Delicatessen

This place is definitely a favorite for all who visit — locals and tourists alike. Plan to arrive early to beat the line (which often snakes out the door during busy hours). A “casual setting for lunch and dinner,” Our Daily Bread offers delicious sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and more that have its customers raving about the food’s freshness and flavor. This place is great for families and anyone looking to enjoy a tasty lunch at a great price. Plus, there are plenty of delicious options for vegan and vegetarian folks!

2. Capone’s Pizza

Pizza lovers have got to check out Capone’s Pizza located in downtown Boone, NC. This place has been voted “The Best Pizza In The High Country” and offers both Chicago Style and New York-Style pizza. It’s got great booth seating, making it great for group dinners of hungry students!

Capone’s is open from 11 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Friday – Saturday; and 12 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. on Sundays. Don’t want to eat in the restaurant? Capone’s Pizza delivers! Adding pizza to your late-night study sessions makes homework a lot more fun.

3. Which Which

For those who enjoy traditional subway sandwiches, try out Which Which for an easily-customizable lunch. In addition to plenty of meaty sandwiches, this lunch spot offers vegan and vegetarian options (such as a black bean patty with hummus and avocado). You can even order online if you so choose!

P.S. If you don’t like your sandwich, Which Which offers “sandwichfaction guaranteed;” if a customer doesn’t completely love their food, they will replace it, refund your money, or both! You can’t go wrong.

4. Melanie’s Food Fantasy

Melanie’s Food Fantasy is a great place if you’re looking to have either brunch or lunch. Offering both breakfast and lunch items, Melanie’s features fair prices for high quality food and fresh ingredients. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, Melanie’s Food Fantasy will work carefully to ensure none of your food has come into contact with animal products, and is very accommodating to other dietary restrictions or food allergies upon notification.

Among the delicious breakfast plates Melanie’s serves is the Student Special: Two local farm eggs your way with homefries or grits and homemade toast with grape jelly or apple butter, all for only $6! You can get a fresh, delicious omelet at Melanie’s for under $10, or pancakes for around the same price. For lunch, check out the tasty sandwich, burger, and soup options cooked to order.

5. Sunrise Grill

This place is a definite hit as far as Boone restaurants go. Sunrise is a popular and creative family-owned restaurant that serves mainly original dishes and comfort food. Sunrise Grill offers a friendly environment made especially pleasant by its friendly employees and energy.

This week’s specials include red velvet pancakes with sweet cream butter, and oven-baked apples with cinnamon and blueberries. There’s no way you can miss eating at Sunrise Grill if you’re hanging out near central Boone, North Carolina — after all, they even offer free Wi-Fi, perfect for any hungry college students looking to surf the internet. Score!

6. Basil’s Fresh Pasta and Deli

Looking for some fresh pasta during your visit to Boone? Try Basil’s! They sell fresh pasta cut to order (pappardelle, fettuccine, linguine and spaghetti) by the ½ pound, and since Basil’s is a market-deli combo, you can order food for takeout and even cook the food yourself (note the fresh ravioli); you can buy 9 different flavors of ravioli per pound, including anything from basic cheese ravioli to sun-dried tomato pesto, or even chicken and prosciutto.

There are just as many sauces as there are ravioli types, including classic marinara, puttanesca, clam, wild mushroom, pomodoro, and artichoke pesto (to name a few).

7. FARM Cafe

FARM Cafe is an amazing lunch location operated almost entirely by volunteers that welcomes visitors regardless of their income; as “a non-profit, pay-what-you-can community kitchen that builds a healthy and inclusive community,” FARM Cafe is dedicated to bringing people high-quality, local food no matter who they are or how much they have to offer.

Some varying menu items at FARM Cafe include potato and zucchini cakes, watermelon salad, miso ginger carrot soup (it’s both vegan and dairy free), and Cumin Roasted Pork Loin with Local Blackberry Molasses Sauce. There are even opportunities to become a FARM Cafe Intern, for any students interested in working at a great non-profit oriented towards lessening hunger in the community.

The cafe encourages visitors to give donations proportional to their plate size, and if you’re tight on cash, you can volunteer in exchange for your food. However, no customer will be turned away.
