1. Law Board Games. There are several awesome law-themed board games that would make the perfect holiday gifts for law students — not only can they be opened up and played while home for the holidays, but they can easily be taken back to school and played with fellow law student friends while hanging out.

The first game you might consider buying is a gift is called “Passing the Bar.” It’s a great game that uses questions modeled after the multi-state part of the bar exam and is sure to be an interesting and entertaining way to learn, review, and test your legal knowledge.

Another game, “Lawsuit!” is an award-winning fun, funny, and educational board game, that allows players to experience and learn about the law as they make their way through law school, the bar exam, and into their own law firms and the courtroom.

2. Noise-Cancelling Headphones. While not just the perfect holiday gift for law students, they are something a law student may find useful as there’s a lot of studying to do as a law student.

It’s easier to concentrate when you’re not distracted while studying, be it in a cafe, library, coffee shop, or elsewhere, and noise-cancelling headphones will allow law students to transform a busy and loud study spot into a quiet one. There are lots of different kinds of noise-cancelling headphones you can purchase so choose a pair that will work for your law student gift-receiver but also for your budget.

3. Law-Related Pleasure Reading. As much as law students may read, most of it, if not all of it, is probably related to studying, school, and otherwise. They probably don’t have a lot of time for pure pleasure reading, which is why buying them law-related pleasure reading is a great idea for a holiday gift.

This way, they’re still soaking in legal knowledge or gaining a better understanding of how the law and what they’ve learned is applied. Consider purchasing Scott Turow’s 1977 autobiography “One L: The Turbulent True Story of a First Year at Harvard Law School,” which tells his experiences as a first-year law student at Harvard and continues to sell thousands of copies each year as many law students read it during their first year or while applying to law schools.

If you think the law student you’re buying a gift for would like a book a little more current, candid, and comical, I’d recommend Martha Kimes’ memoir “Ivy Briefs: True Tales of a Neurotic Law Student,” which many have called the new “One L.” Lastly, check out the suspenseful and engaging “Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice” by Sidney Powell, which is the true story of how federal prosecutors used unethical tactics.

 4. “Law School in a Box.” While the law student in your life is going to an actual law school, “Law School in a Box,” made by Mental_Floss, is a perfect gift that’s not only thoughtful, but useful. The box itself is small but it contains a 96-page mini-textbook which has lots of handy definitions and explanations of legal terms and rundowns of important cases, courtroom trading cards which are both funny and full of facts, a legal trivia bar exam, and a fake hilarious diploma.

5. Caffeine. Of course, being law students, plain old cash would undoubtedly be a useful holiday gift that would help pay for various expenses and necessities, but rather than just handing them money, consider giving them a present they’ll definitely use or a gift card to somewhere they’d need, like Starbucks.

Coffee is probably a necessity for your law student so giving them a Keurig and lots of K-cups or another easy to use coffeemaker would definitely be appreciated. You could also always go the Starbucks route and give them a gift card to spend at the store, or a gift card to some other coffee shop or cafe, like Dunkin Donuts.

So this year, choose from these five great holiday gift ideas for law students and you won’t go wrong. Happy holidays!
