5 of the Yummiest Restaurants in Tally You Haven’t Tried

By Kaysee Donathan on December 8, 2015

Let’s face it, most of us don’t get the opportunity to eat out as much as we’d like. For the rare occasion you do get to eat out (be it Parent’s Weekend, a date night, or a Treat Yo Self day), here is a list of 5 delicious restaurants in Tallahassee that you probably haven’t tried yet.

1. Nefetari’s Fine Cuisine & Spirits

Appropriately named after the queen of Egypt, they will serve you a meal worthy of royalty. The tiny, quirky restaurant is hidden away on a side lane off of Gaines Street, behind the Sidebar Theater. You’ll find an authentic worldly experience at this restaurant with their diverse menu and regal decor. They have delicious and unique options for everyone in your party. It’s even vegan and vegetarian-friendly! If you leave without trying their vegan mac and cheese, just know I’m disappointed in you. They also hold some pretty wild sounding events, like a murder mystery masquerade.

2. Kübano!

601 W. Gaines St.

Okay, so this isn’t technically a restaurant, and maybe that’s the reason you haven’t tried it yet. If you want to do your taste buds a favor, don’t let your prejudice against food trucks continue to keep you away! While Gordos is good for what it’s good for, Kübano! is where you want to go to find authentic Cuban food. They’re located in front of the gas station on the corner of Gaines Street and Railroad. You’ll usually be able to follow the music right to them.

3. Gaines Street Pies

Though the restaurant recently moved to a new location, they are still (thankfully) located on Gaines Street. Now, I know there are a lot of great pizza places in Tallahassee, but you might just find your local favorite at Gaines Street Pies if you haven’t already. With the comic book theme and the laidback staff, it definitely has the typical comfy pizza and beer place vibe, only with better pizza. Their menu offers a variety of unique pies, but you can always make your own if you’re picky with your toppings. It may be a little more than you’re used to paying for pizza in Tallahassee, but you know it’s worth it.

4. Sweet Pea Café

I bet I know the reason you haven’t tried this one yet (unless you’ve just never heard of it). This vegan restaurant is not to be discriminated against for its lack of animal products. In fact, you’ll want to know just how they manage to make their food so delicious without even a drop of dairy. Their sweet potato fries are my favorite in town. It’s a meal that will leave you feeling good in more ways than one! The interior of the place is tiny, so it’s best to go on a nice day and sit outside. Also, try not to laugh too hard at the irony of it being next to a meat market. You have to try their cookies too!

5. Hopkins’ Eatery

1700 N. Monroe St.

This local favorite has three locations, so you really have no excuse for not having tried this one. This deli will serve you one of the best sandwiches you can get in Tallahassee. It’s a simple place, but with a full menu. The quality ingredients and fresh bread will leave you completely satisfied. Oh, and if you’re looking for a delicious bakery, they have a cake menu too!
