My Favorite Christmas Traditions
Ah, finally! It’s Christmas time: my favorite time of the year.
The aroma of hot chocolate fills the crisp air, warm reindeer sweaters come out and hug your body, and the sky is lit up with sparkling holiday lights. Now don’t judge me, but I’ve already had Christmas music blaring in my dorm room. I just can’t contain my excitement. Christmas is BY FAR my favorite holiday.
However, it’s not Santa’s sleigh bells and ginormous gift bag that makes me love this holiday. It’s not the Christmas ham either (although it’s close). I adore Christmas because of all the family traditions that December brings!
1.) Charlie Brown Christmas
Now I know I’ve mentioned good old Charlie in my other posts, but Charlie Brown is part of the Lineberry family. Every holiday has Charlie Brown, but Christmas is my favorite time to bring him around. Every year we watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
My mom, dad, sister, and I all cuddle up on the couch while our hearts are warmed with the Charlie Brown tree and hot cocoa. It’s great bonding time and I love it. There’s no better way to the heart than a poor, dinky little Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
2.) Christmas Lights
Ever since I was little, my parents and I have rode around our small little town and looked at all the Christmas lights. We’d get bundled up in our coats, blast some Jingle Bells, and slowly drive down all the sparkling backroads. It’s so inspiring to see how much work people put into their homes around the holidays. Personally, I like the white icicle lights the best; they give such a magical feeling to the world. Because of this tradition, my dorm room is strung with so many Christmas lights it’s crazy. It makes me feel at home and I love it.
3.) Snowman Decor
So my mother has a slight obsession with snowmen. It’s a little bit creepy, but everyone has their quirks I suppose. My house is decked with snowmen. I’m not exaggerating when I say that there are snowmen in every single corner of our home. Since my mom loves snowmen so much, we made it a tradition to pick out a snowman decoration every year.
It’s a cute and easy way to spend time together. This year we got a little snowman candle holder to go on our coffee table. It’s so adorable. Nothing says Christmas like a million snowmen in your home.
4.) BBQ Weenies
If anyone knows me, they know I love food. So one of my favorite things about Christmas is the food we get annually. Each Christmas my family always does finger foods so it makes it a little easier to clean up. We have cheese ball, meatballs, cracker trays, any finger food you can think of. But my favorite is the BBQ weenies. I look forward to those guys every single year.
5.) Christmas Breakfast
Every Christmas my sister and I wake up at the crack of dawn. Excitedly, we run down the stairs past a million presents bundled under the tree and straight to the kitchen. The air is filled with french toast scent and bacon crackles in the distance. My dad is holding a spatula in one hand and an oven mitt is on the other. Our mouths water as we sit down to a family breakfast and share our thanks for the year. We laugh and tell old stories while filling our bellies. Opening presents with a full stomach is delightful.
Traditions are my favorite part of Christmas. We have plenty of others at my house (like an annual Christmas photo, like the one with my boyfriend above), but these are just a few of my favorites. Traditions make for a great bonding experience and an even more memorable holiday month. Without my family traditions, I don’t know how I could ever call it Christmas.
