How to be a College Hipster
So you’re in college now and as you may have noticed, your peers have grown up from baggy jeans and preppy polos.
Instead, you’re now seeing a whole new breed of folks — liberal and opinionated hipsters who sport European-styled clothing. And oh, the fixie bikes. Can’t forget about the fixie bikes.
You probably want to fit in with these cool cats. Or, if they’re rare on your campus, then you can stand out by becoming a hipster.
Steps on becoming a hipster:
- Hair – You need to have gelled and long, slick-backed hair. Wash at night and comb it right
- Plaid Shirts – You need to own at least seven plaid shirts, one for each day of the week, and one per unique color combination (which makes 21 colors in total)
- Bike – Get a fixie. If you ride a geared bike, forget about it — you’re not a hipster
- Bag – Carry a leather messenger bag because backpacks are for the unsophisticated
- iPhone – Gotta have an iPhone to navigate the treacherous paths off campus. It’s also a must-have in order to text with friends using emoticons because letters just aren’t good enough
- RayBan sunglasses – These are preferable but be sure to have a pair of aviators stashed away in your car or at home
- Skinny jeans – The tighter the better. Bright color variations don’t hurt either
- Tattoos – Some gnarly tattoos on the forearm to show off
- DSLR camera or Instagram – One or the other for hip and filter photography. Add on a fisheye lens to for a full authentic hipster feel
And with those bullets crossed out you are now officially a Hipster.
