Care Packages from Home

By Abigael Maas on November 15, 2011

Every out of state college kid loves getting mail—especially packages from home filled with their favorite things that we just cannot seem to find on our own. To feel like you’re at home, ask your parents to send you a package containing some of your favorites and some fun things. It does not have to be a special occasion to ask for a care package. Sometimes you need things before a holiday comes along. Whether it is Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or just because, you can have an awesome care package.

Food

Many college students don’t have access to a grocery store or an inexpensive corner store.  Care packages from home can come filled with edible goodies.  Peanut butter, canned goods, candy, cereal…the list of shippable food stuffs goes on and on.  Just be sure that if there is anything perishable in your package, like cookies, to be on the lookout so that your package is not just sitting there waiting for you to pick it up.

Clothes

When packing for college, it is inevitable that some important clothes (or just that one outfit you really love) will be left out by accident.  A package from home is the perfect way to get those clothes to you sooner rather than later.  Why go out and buy new clothes when, for a much cheaper price, your parents can send you exactly what you want from your very own closet.

DVDs

Entertainment is a must after a long day or week of classes.  Sometimes watching the same DVDs you already have with you over and over becomes a bit boring.  Ask for a fresh batch of movies or T series on DVD to be sent you so that you can look at something different.  Having a good selection of movies will also allow you to bond with your roommate or allow you to have friends over for a movie night.

Gift Cards

If there are any shops or places to eat near campus that you can walk to and enjoy, maybe ask your parents to send you a gift card to those places.  Another good gift card to get is an iTunes gift card.  You always need some good music that you listen to while you are working out, walking to class, or just relaxing in your room.

Getting mail from home is one of the best things about going to school out of state.  Getting care packages from home is even better!  Be sure to ask your parents politely if they could send you something.  If they already have the idea, thank them for thinking of you and sending you such wonderful goodies.
