Top 6 Reasons To Loft Your Bed (As Told By Cats)
Here are a few of the top reasons you should loft your bed in your college dorm room. The great debate of deciding whether to loft beds or not has plagued students in small dorm rooms for a long time, but the hassle of changing sheets midair and climbing up to bed can be well worth the struggle!
As told by cats, who are lofting experts.
1. You won’t do work on your bed, so you’ll sleep better.
Studies show that doing work on your bed decreases productivity, because it leads to procrastination and makes it harder to sleep at night since you associate your bed with your work. If your bed is lofted, it’s also less likely that you will take your phone or laptop into bed with you, which will help you sleep more (since the light from electronics causes your body to stop producing melatonin and therefore stops you from falling asleep).
2. You have more privacy.
It’s much more difficult to see someone sleeping on a lofted bed, so if you’re shy about your sleep habits, then this will offer a little more privacy and maybe even save you from an onslaught of unattractive Snapchats. Although, to be honest, your roommate probably doesn’t want to see you drooling either, so a loft would be a win-win.
3. You will create a lot more space.
You can use the space underneath your bed for storage, or just leave it open so you have more space in your room. You can even bring in a futon or a small couch, so you have someplace comfortable to sit. Visually, it opens up floor space, which will automatically make the room seem a lot larger and cleaner.
4. Many schools will offer lofting services for you.
At Johns Hopkins, Cornell, UC Berkeley, and many more, staff is present to help you loft your bed so you won’t have to loft it or construct it on your own.
5. Even if lofting services aren’t offered, you can buy cheap lofting kits or follow a tutorial to create your own.
Many colleges, such as Purdue University, allow loft rentals through Bedloft, but even if yours doesn’t, you can still find a loft bed on your own from another website! Or, if you’re good with your hands, you can try to make your own, like shown here.
6. You can create a secluded place to study.
If you loft your bed, you can oftentimes fit your desk underneath. So, if you’re easily distracted but you need to get homework or studying done, you can string a curtain around the loft to give yourself more privacy and isolation.
Now go forth and create the purrfect loft!
