10 Fall Activities To Do In Blacksburg
Blacksburg is an absolutely beautiful area to live in, especially in the fall. It’s even more beautiful when you go to Virginia Tech.
However, although it may be beautiful, I have to admit, there’s not much to do. Sure, there’s a mall and a movie theater, plus a few good restaurants, but those things get old after a while. Luckily, fall saves the day when it comes to fun. Fall brings in so many new opportunities to have a good time.
So, here’s a list of 10 fall activities to do in Blacksburg for those who are getting tired of the same old plans every weekend.
1.) Visit the Pumpkin Patch
I promise that visiting the pumpkin patch is not just for little kids. I absolutely love picking out pumpkins. It’s the perfect time to bond with your family, your friends, or even your significant other. There’s a lot of fun to be had with a single pumpkin. You can paint it, carve it, or even eat it. What’s better than that? Plus, is it even fall if you don’t have a single pumpkin?
2.) Visit the Blue Ridge Parkway
I am overwhelmed by how amazing the fall colors are this year. The trees and bushes are so vibrant. It’s astounding to see the endless sea of red, yellow, and orange.
If you’re like me and absolutely love the scenery, then I suggest going for a walk or a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view is stunning and it will make for some lovely fall photos!
3.) Football
With fall comes the all-American favorite: football. Football games are a blast. It’s the most amazing feeling when the team you’re supporting scores their first touchdown. It’s also an amazing feeling to be jumping like a madman to Enter Sandman.
The Hokie atmosphere at a football game just cannot be described. Those feelings are irreplaceable and absolutely loads of fun. I definitely suggest attending a football game, whether it be a high school game or college game.
4.) Haunted Houses
A really good haunted house to go to in the Blacksburg area is the St. Alban’s Asylum. Not only is it close to campus, but it’s extremely spooky. If you’re looking for a good scare, I would definitely recommend going. Who doesn’t love being a little spooked anyway?
5.) Hay Rides
If you’re tired of wasting gas riding around all the time, a good way to ride around with your friends is by going on a hay ride. You can wrap up in your favorite warm outfits, sip on some apple cider or cocoa, and tell funny stories while soaking in the fall scenery. It’s a great bonding experience that’s easy on the gas.
6.) Decorating
Fall is the perfect time to spice up your living area. Coat your home with jack-o-lanterns, Indian corn, scarecrows, and pumpkins. My family made cool fall decorations this year by carving out pumpkins and using them for flower pots. It was super adorable. Decorated homes are happy homes.
7.) Halloween Movie Marathon
Fall is the perfect time to snuggle up in your pajamas with some friends. Grab some popcorn and the remote and pop in some Halloween movies. They don’t have to be scary though, so don’t worry. Halloween movie marathons are cheap and fun, and you don’t even have to leave your home.
8.) Hiking
In my opinion, hiking in the fall is a lot better than hiking in the summer time. The air is cooler and less humid and the trees are so much prettier. The Cascades are a perfect place to hike if you live here in Blacksburg. The falls there are stunning.
9.) Apple Orchard
I actually just recently went to an apple orchard and it was so much fun. My friends and I laughed while picking juicy red apples and sipping on cider. After picking these apples, we went back to my friend’s apartment and made apple crisp and ice cream. It was delightful. I definitely suggest this as an activity.
10.) Costume Party
Dressing up is literally one of my favorite things to do. It’s the perfect time to whip out your inner child and be super creative. The possibilities are endless here. You can be scary, funny, elegant, anything! Costume parties are a great way to have a good laugh with your friends and meet some new people as well.
