If you’re a student at the University of Missouri, then you understand how important it is to have school spirit, and to show it off – when and wherever possible.

Todd, the newest student community in Columbia, knows exactly what school spirit is all about, and they’ve become an extremely popular addition to the Mizzou community!

Truman the Tiger and the Mizzou Tiger cheer team were all a part of the big celebration at Todd to celebrate the grand opening. What’s more spirited then some of the best spirit leaders of Mizzou cheering on an extremely spirit-friendly new student community?

So if you’re looking for new, fun ways to keep on top of the spirit game and pay that school spirit forward, here are 5 events you should attend around Mizzou.

1. Tiger Walk/Prowl

If you go to Mizzou, you undoubtedly know what Tiger Walk and Tiger Prowl are, and if you don’t, you’re missing out.

Tiger Walk occurs every August before classes start and is meant to welcome the new class into the university.

Freshman walk through the Columns, which signifies their entrance into the university, and the marching band and spirit squad are both present as well in a full-on welcome ceremony.

Tiger Prowl is the opposite of Tiger Walk. It happens every May and is meant to celebrate the new Mizzou graduates. Graduating seniors walk through the Columns towards the city to symbolize their graduation.

2. Halloween Fun

For Mizzou students, there are some extra fun events to not only get your school spirit flowing, but also to celebrate Halloween.

One of these events is Freaky FARC-er Fright Fest, which occurs this Saturday (Oct. 24) from 8 p.m. until midnight. There will be a haunted house and pumpkin painting, and the proceeds from the $2 tickets (with a student ID) go to the Access Arts charity.

Another event to watch out for is the Spooktacular. On Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., a Halloween party complete with pumpkin carving, haunted houses, fortune tellers and Halloween treats is right at your fingertips. Plus, it’s free if you show your student ID!

Finally, there’s the Mystery After Dark. While it isn’t until November 13, it still keeps with the Halloween spirit (as well as school spirit). Running from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., this party is a murder mystery extravaganza, and it’s free.

And did I mention that’s Friday, the 13?

3. Finals Stress Relief

Trying to keep your school spirit all year long, but having trouble because the homework part of college is kicking your butt?

Don’t worry, Mizzou has you covered.

They host Mizzou Crafternoons: Crayons and Coloring Books during finals week, to help relieve some of your finals stress.

During these “crafternoons,” students can take up some crayons and a coloring book and color the day away. Plus, there’s free snacks, and it’s free to participate!

4. Free and $1 Movies

Mizzou hosts multiple free movies, and others that only cost $1 to get in. What better way to show your school spirit than to watch some great films right on your college campus?

With free movies such as “Zombieland” and “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and $1 movies like “Trainwreck” and “Mad Max,” you’re really missing out by not showing up to this one.

5. Pure Entertainment

Finally, if you’re just looking for some pure entertainment where you can celebrate your school and have fun, Mizzou has a few other events in store for you.

Such as Comedy Wars. Throughout this semester, Comedy Wars are taking place with multiple showings, the last of which occurs during finals week. They’re about an hour long and you can sit back, relax and let the improv comedy team keep you laughing until all your stress disappears.

Or maybe you want to take advantage of Mixtape Monday (on the last Monday of every month) and head over to the Multicultural Center for a guest student DJ’s relaxing music (and the free food, of course).

Of course, there are countless ways to demonstrate your school spirit, and I recommend you take the time to research all the ways you can show your Mizzou pride on and around campus! Check out the calendar here for more ideas.
