How to Add Oil to Your Beauty Routine

By idaly mata on October 19, 2015

Being that we are made mostly out of water, it is no wonder that when we slather ourselves in various liquids it makes our skin feel and look better. To get the optimal results, I have found that various oils work best on skin. For me, I have discovered that argan and coconut oil work best.

As far as coconut oil goes, it can literally go on every part of your body to make it so soft. Work a little bit in your hair and it gives you smoothness and shine. Rub it into your skin and you are soft all day. It is even said to have anti-aging properties.

Argan oil is what I usually use in my hair to make it silky and smooth. This oil needs to be used in moderation though because too much and your hair may turn out greasy. The smell is fantastic. A little musky and fruity it is sure to draw the attention of others.

In order to get the best results from these oils one must establish a routine that incorporates them every day. I have such a routine that will keep you looking your best.

Let’s begin with the scrub I use. This is something I make myself, but anyone can do with just a few ingredients.

You will need:

-A measuring cup

-Mixing spoon

-Mixing bowl

-Mason jar

-1 cup of coconut oil

-2 cups of granulated sugar

-4 to 5 tea bags of your choice. I prefer vanilla chai tea.

-1 teaspoon of e essential oil.

Together these ingredients make a scrub that will leave your skin softer than it has ever been before as well as giving yourself a healthy glow. Because the mixture is so gritty with the sugar and tea it will word to scrub away dead skin cell build up that makes the body dry.

All that you really need to do is pour all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix it all together. With everything measured out, it doesn’t matter the order in which you mix things.

A tip, if the coconut oil has taken on a solid texture before mixing, is to heat it up. You can do this by placing it in the microwave or aiming a blow dryer into the jar until it has become a milky liquid.

Granulated sugar is a preference, you could use brown sugar as well or even clean sand if you can find it. It is all about being abrasive.

The e-essential oil can be found in any vitamin section in stores. This adds extra softness to the skin. Using too much however may negate the effects of the abrasive ingredient so use it sparingly.

I use vanilla chai tea in my own scrub because I enjoy the smell. You can pick any flavor of tea as long as it is in a crushed form. All you would have to do is tear open the tea bag and pour it in with the other ingredients.

Once you’ve combined the ingredients and stirred them you want to put it in some kind of container. In order to keep the mixture fresh I recommend using a glass mason jar with a vacuum lim. This can be found in any crafts store such as Hobby Lobby, which often has them for as cheap at $2.99 a jar. Since the mixture turns out quite pretty, you could keep the jar out as decoration once you have your finished product.

As far as the Argan oil goes, there is no recipe. It is just a matter of finding the product that is right for you. I personally love the One ‘N Only brand. One because it is fantastic, two because it is not tested on animals. This product is especially helpful is you use heating products on your hair.

My routine with this, if I am straightening my hair, is intense. Because I have thick, dry hair I use a bit more than someone with thinner hair should.

After getting out of the shower I put a tear drop amount into my palms and work it into my wet hair. I then let my hair air dry after combing it. Once my hair is dry and I have sectioned off my hair, I use another tear drop amount and work it into my hair before the flat iron touches it. This ensures that your hair has that protective layer of oil that lessens the heat damage. After having used the Argan oil with each layer of straightened hair, I then add just a bit more at the end to seal in a sleek style that should last you 24 hours or more depending on the humidity.

Because our body is so sensitive to moisture loss, it is important to have a routine that gives back the moisture. Oils are a great way to do this. Not only do they smell great, they feel amazing on the skin, and are absorbed faster for a longer effect.
