Decorating tables is a lot of fun, especially in the fall season when leaves are changing colors outside and brisk air tells us that October coziness has arrived. These details are great ones to represent in your home if you’re looking for cool table decorations that are infused with autumn essences.
Here are some of the best fall colors to incorporate into tablecloths, centerpieces, and other cute seasonal displays that will easily spruce up a boring or basic tabletop.

Maroon Red
Bring berry colors into your table decor with a maroon tablecloth, or some decoration with a lot of deep, cranberry red coloring in it. Red adds warmth that makes any table setting feel authentic and perfectly seasonal. Dried red flowers can also contribute a light and natural feeling to a display that’ll work well with other fall-inspired color pairings. Fruit lovers can also use apples to jazz up a table, either all together in a bowl, or scattered around individually.
Dark Green/Forest Green
Next time you’re on a neighborhood walk, pick up some of those crunchy leaves lining the gutters. While most leaves right now are colored with a blend of crimsons and oranges, some still have chlorophyll left in them. If you can’t find leaves that are still green, you can grab a few sprigs of redwood tree pine needles to bring home for your tabletop. Dark green has an especially natural-looking appeal that makes for elegant table decorations.

Light Orange
Pumpkins are prolific in the fall season, and we can’t get enough of them! An easy way to bring earthy orange tones into your table decor is by actually using pumpkins as centerpiece material. They are adorable Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations, and they come in varying sizes and funky shapes (as all squash do!)
Try a display of tiny pumpkins, medium sized pumpkins, and larger pumpkins for the center of a table if you want a festive centerpiece, and add in some dried corncobs for more color and texture variety. Pumpkins and corn can be found at any fall harvest festivals, and even at local grocery stores (they cost between 50 cents and a few dollars each, depending on size and type of pumpkin).

Even a cup of those tasty goldenrod orange cherry tomatoes can add fall flavors and colors to a table (the bowling pin-shaped tomatoes are extra adorable). Play around with displays of colorful fruits and vegetables–you can’t go wrong!
Sunflower Yellow/Gold
Muted or bright yellows bring a lot of light and vibrant quality to any table setting. Not only is yellow a “happy” color associated with renewal and sunlight, but it immediately adds a burst of energy to an environment, especially in tabletop decorations like placemats or table runners.
A great way to add yellow to the mix is by placing a vase of cut sunflowers on your table. Sunflowers are cheerful and bold, and they work well with other harvest-y items like pumpkins and corn. You can also set out some yellow squash for a basic table decoration if you are so inclined.
Light Brown
Between acorns, pinecones, and aesthetically pleasing twigs, the options are endless for bringing brown to your tabletop! Sprinkle tiny acorns around a larger centerpiece to finish off a fall-inspired display, or gather up some dried leaves to place in the middle of the table.
If you’re looking to use placemats to put pizzazz into your table arrangement, scope out furniture or craft stores for a wide selection of place settings in all the colors you could possibly think of. Placemats come in various textures; some are smooth and made of a plastic-like material, while others are woven and appear more organic. Most placemats are fairly inexpensive, so you can pick up a set of them to go along with a basic tabletop theme for any fall gatherings you may host in your house or apartment. If you’re a student looking for unique items to use as table decor, check out any craft fairs or farmer’s markets on campus for some handmade goods.
Live plants can be a great source for fall colors for your tabletop as well. For those who may be challenged at keeping a plant alive on a busy college schedule, your best bet plant-wise is to browse the aisles of craft stores for real-looking (but fake) plants and flowers. Best part about these? They’re impossible to kill. The hardest part is just arranging those polyester daisies in the prettiest way!
As for sightly methods of displaying or containing table decorations, try baskets! Coming in all different styles and configurations, baskets can be either narrow or relatively flat. These are perfect for holding fruit or any other decorations that are small to medium sized. There are even baskets with separate compartments built into them, and others have cute handles (Easter basket style). Small baskets are sure to add pizzazz to your tabletop.
Fall is here, and there’s a place for every shade and hue at the table. Happy decorating!
