What I Think When Deciding What to Wear Today

By Justin Japitana on October 10, 2015

Do you ever think about yourself differently in the various clothes you wear? Does wearing shorts make you feel positive about the day or are you too observant about the people around you as if they hate you as a person?

Does the black-colored t-shirt or the grey-colored t-shirt make you feel more secure about yourself?
Among thousands of peers, many students are too highly self-conscious. The fashion choices we choose and the clothes we wear help to define us as a person, and of course we should be proud and confident of what we wear and how we behave around others, but as human beings, we always have self-conscious thoughts. Am I a person that can rock the color teal?

Do these boots look too much on me? Am I small or a medium or am I just feeling like a horrible slob? Should I even try to look good today, who am I impressing? Does my crush notice how nice I look today or does it look obvious that I tried too hard?

What we wear in public helps to uncover the emotional and mental path we set for ourselves over the course of the next 24 hours. Sure I can wear jeans today but why change when I can just stay in my warm pajamas? Underwear? More like whatever.

Here are some mindless thoughts I have when deciding what to wear for the day, and maybe this can relate to you.

T-shirts: “Today is my easy day. Let’s just hope I don’t stain this shirt, otherwise I’m putting it on pajama rotation.”
Collared Shirts: “I’m definitely impressing someone… someone. Just roll up the sleeves already, damn it.
Tank tops – “Nice weather today. Check out my muscles everybody, but don’t look at farmer’s tan.”
Joggers: “Joggers remind me of high school. Am I too old? But they look good on me… People think I have a sense of style with these on, but maybe that’s me. Maybe I should wear jeans; no it’s a joggers type of day. And they’re 2% elastic, that’s like sweatpants!”
Shorts: “These shorts are showing more my legs than I thought. Maybe I’m too tall for these. They ride up when I sit down… Someone just looked at my legs. Do my legs look toned or is there someone wrong with them? Is it a scab? Who am I kidding, I’m fat. Ugh, whatever, today’s too hot for pants.
Jeans: “Man, I hate stairs. I know you’re supposed to wear a pair of jeans frequently if you want to wear them out, but I don’t have the patience or commitment. I have shorts somewhere back home.
Slacks: Give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, I need money, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job, give me a job.
Cargo shorts: I know where my phone and wallet are, but where are my friends?
Sweatpants: “I can be the chilliest person ever or the laziest person ever. Either way, I’m late for class.”
Any clothing made of athletic, dry-fit material: “Today is going to be a long day, but not because I’m going to the gym. I should probably go to the gym though… It’s too hot today.”
Slippers: “I really just can’t today, but today seems nice, but then again I’m overall feeling grouchy. Please don’t let me run today to chase a bus.”
Athletic shoes: “I’m very confident that I can make it through today with minimal fatigue.”
Boat shoes: “I’m feeling leisurely, but I know someone will irritate me today.”
Barefoot: “Definitely never doing that again. I should probably wash my feet before I go to bed.”
