How to Maintain a Fit Lifestyle

By Justin Japitana on September 29, 2015

Whether you’re short or tall, skinny or bulky, have a nice butt, or even on the steroid side of things, everyone checks you out. Newsflash, you’re in college where everyone’s your peer. You don’t need to dress to impress, but you have to look confident, and it starts at your body.

You don’t need to be ripped, just a little shredded… That was a joke, but you do need to think of your physical appearance just a little bit. Do I walk with good posture? Is the shirt I’m wearing loose around the arms? Does the tank top I’m wearing make my shoulders look small? Do these skinny jeans look regular fit on me? Do I get dehydrated often? Do I take the bus more than I walk?

Bodies come in different shapes and sizes. Nonetheless, a small diet change or even an occasional visit to the gym can make all the difference to your body. And though you won’t see results immediately, you’ll feel your body improve in its daily tasks whether it’s running a little farther one day or feeling more alert in class.

You can still look good while doing the minimum for your body, and that’s the thing; not many people even set a minimum. You can still eat that whole pizza, just be sure to drink a lot of water before and after.
Consider these lifestyle tips to your daily regimen and within weeks, you’ll feel a positive change to your body.

1. Water is a must

First off, buy a water bottle and make it your own. People tend to drink more water when it’s availably ready and travel-friendly. People also tend to drink more water when it’s from a neat water bottle than a simple glass. Enhance your drinking water by adding fruit. Besides the benefits of the fruit itself, fruit-infused water helps to boost your metabolism, flushes out toxins from your body, and helps to get rid of fat. Try lemon and orange infused water to help circulation and digestion. Pineapple water helps reduce soreness and aids in cooldown after a workout. Apple infused water helps to boost metabolism and detox the body. Skipping that occasional soda is just one step to something greater.

2. Working out is a commitment

Working out is probably the hardest part of staying fit, but it is indeed important. Going to the gym is real commitment but after time, you’ll find the challenge less and less of a burden and it will be the game changer. Don’t feel too self-conscious at the gym; everyone has equal right to exercise. While you may feel out of place, know that people around you will respect you for going, but realistically, everyone is busy with their own workouts to care about others. Bring a towel.

3. Know your body

Your life revolves around pushing and pulling motions and each muscle in your body helps to enforce that. Every muscle works its way through pushing or pulling like picking up a backpack from the ground to lifting a box, or even writing. Knowing which muscles you primarily use on a daily basis such as your shoulders, triceps, or calves will set a gym regimen for you and in time, you’ll see muscles becoming more contoured and defined as you work them out which shows and will ultimately pave the road to you focusing on other muscles in your body and gaining more confidence in your life.

4. Going the extra mile doesn’t have to be so bad

Park far away when you’re going shopping. Vacuum your house more often. Take a walk. Use the stairs. Begin your meals by filling your plate with salad first. Consider supplements or protein powders to your diet, but do research first. Sleep eight hours. Dance to a good music playlist. Buy workout clothes to encourage going out more.
5. Cheeseburgers and pizza aren’t the enemy

Yes, you can still inhale food and be healthy. The occasional lazy day isn’t going to do a lot of damage as you long you keep active. We’re all human, if you think you can cut In-N-Out or doughnuts from your life, think again. Just eat with moderation in mind, drink water, sweat whenever you’re working out, and don’t forget to use deodorant.

6. Be humble with your body

Want a sculpted six-pack? Well know that you’ll have to sacrifice a lot liking cutting comfort food from your diet and considering intense full-body workouts in your spare time. In order to get sculpted abs, know that you’ll have to burn a large portion of body fat which can be unhealthy in some cases. Know that love handles are genetic and that the most you can do is maintain your waist. Know that achieving that supermodel body isn’t worth losing Netflix and pizza with your best friends. As long as you’re able to walk up that staircase without a heart attack or smile with purpose at yourself in the mirror, you’re perfectly healthy. Be accepting of your body but always be willing to challenge yourself.
