Good weather, rad friends, exceptional waves, and breathtaking views are just a few of the things the Florida State surf club experienced during their first trip of the 2015-2016 year. Thanks to the dedicated president of the club, Lauren Gibson, the surf pals were able to head into Jacksonville, Florida and spend a weekend camping and shredding at Little Talbot Island on a trip that went on without a hitch.

Although I’m not a surfer, I was still able to come along in hopes of learning how to surf. Even though I never got the chance to do that (due to the wave conditions) it was still an unforgettable experience to come on the trip and  meet some of the most beautiful souls here at Florida State. The crew did a great job at reminding the inexperienced not to be discouraged, and that they had plenty of chances throughout the semester to put their learning skills to the test.  For the surfers who were more experienced, the choppy waves were nothin’ new and just another challenge the members enjoyed overcoming.

On the first day of the trip, some of the surfers left Tallahassee bright and early to arrive in Little Talbot before sunrise.  When they finally got onto the beach they immediately set up their gear , paddled out into the ocean, and duck dived hoping to catch some gnarly waves. Many of the other members of the club arrived throughout the day to join the  fun that was only just beginning.

By late afternoon, everyone had arrived and the surfing shenanigans were in full force. For those who didn’t have a surf board, the members did an excellent job at sharing boards and allowing each person to get a chance to ride some waves. Some people even made the decision to head to the local surf shop to rent some boards of their own. Throughout the day the surfers continued to enjoy the great weather, greater music, good vibes, and sick waves.

And hey, don’t worry if you don’t know how to surf. Here are 8 other things that happened that you are sure to enjoy

1. ONE WORD, SLACK LINE (okay maybe that’s two)

The surf-goers had an amazing time attempting to balance and walk across the slack line. Even though most failed pretty hard, it was incredibly funny to watch them live out their inner acrobat.

2. TANNING

Not only were the ladies amazing surfers, but they were also certified sun-soakers. Sorry to the ones who got sun burnt, better luck next time.

3.  THE AMAZING SCENERY

If you haven’t gotten the chance to visit little Talbot, you defintley should . The crisp weather and astonishing views are quite the experience.

4. RUSH FSU SURF?

A few of the guys made a fun theme of the trip : “Rush FSU surf”. They even adopted their own pledge, Cole Volpe. He’s pretty talented if you haven’t noticed.

5. CAMPING BRAH

Bear Grylls had nothing on these campers. The members eventually took a break from surfing to pitch their tents for the night. As night time rolled around, the crew threw a fun party and eventually spent the night in their tents.

6.  ENOS

If you don’t have one of these hammocks already, GET ONE. Everyone enjoyed laying  in these while chilling on the beach.

7.  Life long friendships

On this trip many people met new amazing friends, and even bonded with their old ones.

8. This group picture

If you were there to experience how long it took to take this picture, you understand why it’s a memorable moment. Oh, look out for the pledge standing high on the surf board in the middle.  ”Shaka and flex, Shaka and flex.”

There you have it, the incredible Florida State University surf club.  Be on the look out for the next trip planned , I’m sure it’s going to be nothing short of amazing.
