Statue Unveiling Secret; Christians Threatening Destruction

By Camilo Echeverri Bernal on July 16, 2015

From their move to host a Black Mass  in Oklahoma to aiming to place a statue of Baphomet next to a Ten Commandments monument in Oklahoma, Satanists have been stirring the pot even more this past year and a half.

The Satanic Temple, based in New York but with several national chapters, has moved forward with the unveiling of the aforementioned statue now in the capital of Michigan, much to the outcry of the Christians threatening destruction forcing the group to keep the unveiling secret after receiving several aggressive messages.

“A wise women told me to stay away from Eastern Market that night. And if you’re going, you just might leave with a parting gift you didn’t even ask for or never wanted,” read one of the messages posted on Facebook. “I bet it would blow up real good,” read another.

Originally, the Marketplace where they meant to unveil the statue charged them $3,000 for the space. However, upon learning that it was a Satanic group, the owner promptly returned the money.

“Detroit is a very religious area,” Bert Dearing of Bert’s Marketplace said. “When I rented the place, I just thought it was a church. I didn’t know about the unveiling of a statue. We weren’t aware they were into devil worshipping.”

It seems, however that the owner only took such an action once the fact was made public as he allegedly already knew who the ones renting the space were.

A local pastor, David Bullock, is especially against the unveiling of the statue in the city.

“The last thing we need—in a city where we’re fighting against violence and fighting against economic problems and unemployment and the water crisis—is a statue dedicated to Satan right downtown,” Bullock said.

“ The statue will serve as a beacon calling for compassion and empathy among all living creatures. The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation,” replied Doug Mesner as a response to Bullock’s statement.

Ultimately, tickets to the unveiling will be pre-sold and the location will be revealed to prevent harassment. The statue will not remain in Detroit and will most likely be moved to Arkansas, where a Ten Commandments display will soon go up.
