Summer 2012: Fashion Trends

By Tayler LaBellarte on June 6, 2012

June is here and that means it’s time to ditch the dreary colors of fall and unleash the new summer trends! Every summer I do my research by browsing through various fashion blogs and magazines. I pull together some of the more popular trends for spring/summer and narrow it down to my favorites. For Spring/Summer 2012 it is all about prints and color. These are some of the newest and most popular trends to take you into summer.

1. Colored Jeans

Denim is getting a make over this summer. So long are the days of boring blue jeans, now its about color jeans. Purple, red, blue, and an array of pastels make for the perfect summer jean. They can be paired with different tops and accessories for a cool summer night out or even to wear to work.

2. Prints

Maxi dresses came out last summer but this summer they are transforming into the print maxi dress. This summer plain dresses just won’t do. The more print on a dress the better. It makes for a fun wadrobe while giving off a feminine and chic style. Dresses aren’t the only thing going to print this summer, but jeans are as well. Floral and even animal print jeans are beginning to make an impression. These prints give denim a new name.

3. Color Blocking

For those who are used to wearing colors like black, grey, and even white the color blocking trend is a great way to start to break out from the boring and into something new. If you like me and enjoy the darker colors try adding a colorful blazer, skirt, or even just a belt. The pop of color allows you to mix and match and it catches a lot of attention.

 4.  Sheer

Sheer clothes are tricky but when worn properly the fabric can be a perfect way to spice up an outfit. Sheer tops specifically are popular this summer. They aren’t meant to be worn alone so don’t forget to wear a cute tank top or even a bandeau top underneath. You can even get creative and use the undergarments as a way to practice color blocking!

5. Neon

Embrace the loudness of neon this summer. All the way from dresses to nails anything neon goes. Electric neon adds a strong pop of color which brings out personality and excitement. The tip for making neon work is not wearing too many neon pieces at one time. Keep it simple with only wearing a little neon at a time.

If you are like me and some of these trends are out of your comfort zone, break out and try something new. Summer time fashion is about expression, so give it a shot and stand out like a neon shirt, all while looking completely fashionable.
