12 New Songs To Add To Your Summer Playlist

By Jessica Mahmoud on June 1, 2015

One of the things I love doing is finding new music. I love hearing about new music, getting mix CDs, and sharing them with others.

With summer in full swing, there’s plenty of time where music is needed: road trips, working out, parties, or just relaxing.

Here’s my best finds for your summer 2015 playlist!

1. Best I Can Do, by MisterWives

I discovered this song in a Youtube video, a great place to find good music. MisterWives looks to be getting some fans, especially because of their appearance in MTV’s Finding Carter. The show’s theme song is by them, their song “Vagabond.” Additionally, they appeared to play a concert in the show. This song is really upbeat, perfect for summer. However, some of their other songs are more deep and emotional. My favorite is “Oceans.”

2.Youth, by Daughter

I’m not sure where I found this song, but it’s really beautiful. It’s great if you’re trying to get to sleep or relax after a busy day.

3. Summertime Team Explosions, Lorde vs. Ellie Goulding vs. Lana Del Rey

This is from a Youtuber who has a bunch of mashups on their channel. They’re really amazing and I have no idea how much work it must be to make them. Most of them are really upbeat, perfect for runs outside. I love Lana Del Rey and Lorde, who often appear in the mashups.

There are also ones with artists like Sia, Owl City, and Zedd. Be sure to check out this channel.

4. Thrills, by Zilly Rocket

Thrills by Sizzy Rocket

I think this song was free on Shazam or something a while ago. It’s just a perfect summer anthem!

5. Lean On, by Major Lazer & DJ Snake

I added this because it’s a song I love working out to. I am a firm believer that music is a huge influence on how motivated I am when I work out. The song’s constant upbeat beats always keep me going. Plus, it’s not too filled with beats, so it keeps you interested with the lyrics.

6. Talking Body, by Tove Lo

If you’re more into sexy tracks, this one should do it for ya. Tove Lo is the same artist of “Habits (Stay High),” a popular song a while back as well as “Not on Drugs.” Her songs are always entertaining and this one doesn’t disappoint. I love how it goes slow and then the chorus picks up again.

7. Standing in the Way of Control, by Gossip

I’m not sure if this was ever a popular song, but it’s really great. Another awesome workout tune, but also just upbeat for summer activities or occasions. The singer’s voice is so diverse and the chorus pickup in this one is also great in this track.

8. Night, by Zola Jesus

Here’s a slower song for relaxing to. Zola Jesus gives a Lana-Del-Rey vibe, but not as depressing (in a good way!). The instrumentals are definitely unique to the typical alternative/indie tune. Her song “Lightstick” is also great.

9. Shake it Out, by Florence and the Machine (The Weeknd Remix)

I found this beauty in an episode of “Skins UK.” If you’re a fan of Florence and the Machine, you’ll probably really appreciate this remix. It really takes their upbeat song, “Shake it Out” and turns it more mysterious and slow. It has a small electronic vibe, without losing the amazing Florence sound.

10. Velvet Elvis, by Alex Winston (Crystal Fighters Remix)

I found this song a while ago. While the original song is good too, this remix is much better, in my opinion. The song is really fun and flirty, but the background turns down the love song theme, in a good way. It’s a pretty good workout song as well.

11. Swim, by Fickle Friends

I had to include this in a summer playlist! It’s a cute, upbeat song that will certainly have you singing along after a few listens.

12. Foundations, by Kate Nash

Finally, I’ll end with this quirky track, check it out! It’s more of a story, but really funny and original.

Summer is the best time to sit back and listen to some new tunes, or make a killer playlist for parties and/or working out. I hope I gave you some inspiration and happy listening!

Life is too short to listen to bad music.
