The "It" Colors Of Spring 2015

By Alexia Gonzalez on January 9, 2015

For the upcoming spring 2015 fashion season there is a move towards the cooler side of the color spectrum. An eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals take center stage as designers draw from daydreams of simpler times.

The rich deep shades of the winter months are veering towards a softer aesthetic reminiscent of paradisiac islands, lush royal gardens, and folkloric art. A delicate palette of muted pinks, blues, greens and earth tones is ushering in the warmer months and restoring us with a sense of reawakening.

Although the bias for pastels has caused designers to rebel against these shades for the warm weather months, this spring is going back to its floral roots. These colors revert to the simplistic hues of Mother Nature rather than seeming artificially reworked or technologically manipulated. Soft and breezy tones provide a calming aura contrary to the continuous hustle of our busy lives.

The color experts at Pantone have gazed into their crystal ball to declare the spring season’s most sought after hues favored by designers all over the runway. Check out a few of their top picks for the best of the spring spectrum and prepare your wardrobe for 2015.

Marsala

This pink take on the basic brown, Marsala is a rich maroon that is not only intriguing on its own but has earned the spot as Pantone’s color of the year for 2015. The richer version of the brick-red is both daring and sensual and evokes a sophisticated earthiness with an appetizing warmth.

Marsala exudes confidence and pairs beautifully with other muted neutrals yet makes an unexpected pairing with bright colorful shades. Try it in dress, skirt, or pant form, translate it to metallics, or my personal favorite rock it as a smoldering lip color or smokey eye enhancer.

Aquamarine

Blue is definitely having a moment this spring with variations of the primary finding their way to the list of most anticipated colors. This shade of blue is somewhere in between a sunny sky on the verge of cloudy storm.

Aquamarine has been elected as the top color of the season for women, not only because of its appealing watery element, but also quite possibly because of its calming properties, which serve to reduce stress and calm the nerves. Pair a solid aquamarine with doses of sleek grays, earthy browns, or maroons.

Scuba Blue

This rich turquoise is an invigorating blue that evokes an almost tangible sense of beachy tranquility with echoes of a tropical ocean.

Scuba Blue offers a vibrant and energizing flair, which will supercharge any springtime ensemble. Scuba Blue’s invigorating jewel-like tone is an inviting shade that can be perceived as playful yet sophisticated. This stirring hue looks stunning when paired with light yellows, similar greens, or contrasting whites.

Lucite Green

Essentially a sharp mint, Lucite Green is not necessarily connoted as a fashionable shade and for some reason seems to take us back to a retro frame of mind. However, it certainly has made multiple appearances during past seasons and for that can seem a bit nostalgic.

This soothing shade has inherently calming properties and offers a refreshing glow to any ensemble while feeling light, delicate, and refined. Use Lucite sparingly with neutral shades in order to keep your spring look chic yet understated.

Classic Blue

Almost as safe a bet as stripes for spring, this true blue is known to be an anchoring hue that works well with pretty much every other color on the spring list. For spring-summer, Classic Blue serves up a little more stability, though it can offer a touch of the unexpected.

This strong tone is perceived as introspective and incites feelings of confidence, harmony and calmness. The bold aquatic qualities of the classic sailor blue pairs is complemented by neutral browns and nude shades.

Toasted Almond

On the lighter side of the brown family, Toasted Almond offers a harmonious balance to the bright colors of the spring color range. This sun kissed earth tone brings a warmth and comfort to the spontaneity of the start of the warm weather months.

An all-natural shade, Toasted Almond is timeless and elegant and as versatile as Mother Nature herself. Organic and transcendent, this tone adds a touch of class and can take your flirty spring get up into a smoldering nighttime ensemble.

Strawberry Ice

Nothing evokes sentiments of spring more than a flirty pink hue. Cue Strawberry Ice: a cool and feminine shade almost as refreshing as the delicacy itself. Emit a warm and alluring glow with this charming take on the beloved color of the girls.

Tasty yet tasteful, Strawberry Ice is a delectable treat for just about any skin tone and wears beautifully throughout a monochromatic ensemble. Pair with the aforementioned Toasted Almond for a sexy and au-natural color combo.

Tangerine

For some reason, orange seems to be one of the most frowned upon of the primaries. But this spring is reawakening the unrhyme-able color with a bold take on Tangerine. This citrusy hue is juicy and tantalizing without seeming too over the top.

Try Tangerine within a patterned outfit or pair it with other brights for an even more striking appearance. This friendly color is aggressive in the most inviting way and brings a healthy glow, even during those rainy spring days.
