Recap: The Billboard Music Awards 2012

This past Sunday the  2012 Billboard Music Awards aired live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This award show compliments some of the greatest artists in the world who have all done a phenomenal job with providing their fans with top of the chart hits.

Adele dominated this award show even though she was not present at the ceremony.  She took home 12 awards including the most desirable which was the Top Artist Award.  It was no surprise that the British pop sensation would win several awards. She has been getting nothing but positive reviews for her ground breaking album “21” which features the award winning song “Rolling in the Deep.”

Following Adele’s domination was the pop duo LMFAO.  They took home 7 awards all thanks to the song that people are still going crazy over known as “Party Rock Anthem.”  Next, the YMCMB rap mogul, Lil Wayne dominated male hip hop for the night by winning in four different categories including Top Rap Artist.  Coldplay also won 4 awards including Top Rock Artist.  Other winners of the night included Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, and Jason Aldean.

Switching gears a little, not only were there some great wins at this award show but there were some great performances as well.  John Legend teamed up with Jordin Sparks to do a tribute to the late Whitney Houston.  They performed versions of the late singer’s hits “The Greatest Love of All” and “I Will Always Love You.”  The evening remembered Whitney Houston with the Millennium award which was accepted by Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

Stevie Wonder was honored with the Icon Award, and he put on a show as always performing some of his hits with Alicia Keys. They performed “Higher Ground,” “Overjoyed,” and “Superstition.”  Other performers included Perry, Cee Lo Green, Linkin Park, The Wanted, Usher and Chris Brown.  This was truly a great night filled with music by artists we all love.
