Finals: May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

It is that point in the semester that every college student dreads: Finals Week. You thought 15 weeks would go by slowly, but no. Here you are looking through your syllabi and realizing that there are not enough hours of the semester left in order for you to finish everything you need to.
Three finals on the same day? That’s a sick joke. But no worries. Here are 5 tips that will help you make it through this week without breaking down and crying.
1. Plan Ahead
Figure out when your finals are, where they are and what type of exam they are. There is nothing worse than walking into your classroom and realizing that your final is being held elsewhere or getting onto the bus and the bus driver is taking a detour because of construction (thank you RU Screw).
Don’t wait until the night before to figure this all out. Make a calendar for the week so these little details don’t turn into big problems.
2. Get Enough Sleep
An all nighter is probably not your best bet. Your brain can only cram so much information the night before and to be honest you’ll probably forget it all by the time you get into the classroom.
Sleeping, on the other hand, can help. It will allow you to focus better on the exam in front of you and will not throw off the rest of your week.
3. Don’t Panic
My first final my freshman year of college was probably the most nerve wrecking experience of my life. My hands were sweating, my heart was racing and my brain felt like it was going to explode. DON’T PANIC!
Finals are overwhelming and often count for a large part of your grade but panicking isn’t going to help anything. If anything, it will stress you out. Remember, finals aren’t everything and if you prepare, you’ll do fine!
4. Study, Study, Study
I love Netflix as much as the next person but finals week is not the week to start a brand new show. Make sure you give yourself enough time to study.
Also make sure you are using effective study methods. Just reading over your notes isn’t going to help you memorize your information. Make notecards or make a study group.
Also take advantage of technology; sites like StudyBlue are awesome for making note cards, quizzes and study guides that you are able to save and share with your classmates.
5. Don’t Be Scared to Ask For Help
Don’t be scared to ask for help. Email your professors if you don’t understand something or email your Teaching Assistants.
Also go to office hours. Your professor is going to have office hours no matter what so you might as well take advantage of them. Office hours are great because you are able to get direct answers to your questions.
Finals week is the worst week of the semester but just think about how close winter break is!
Last but not least: May the odds be ever in your favor.
