Campus Solutions: The News Team Solving the Problems of College Students
Problems follow you everywhere in life, especially in college.
Campus Solutions is a campus news broadcast that covers University of Maryland news stories. This news broadcasts features the satirical comedic style one would see on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show. Campus Solutions’ filmed episodes will also include field correspondents segments as well as on the street interviews and orchestrated comedic situations.
“It was one of those things where I got together with a few friends and I knew I wanted to create a comedy group that was different from the other troops on campus. I wanted it to be a different side to covering news besides the on-campus publications. Something that represents the minds and thoughts of the students,” said founder Adam Goldberg, a sophomore public relations major.
Goldberg is not a stranger to the comedic world as he has his own satirical news website, that in recent weeks has gotten a lot of extra attention due to his satirical article calling out Terrapin Turf for being the cause of the viral meningitis outbreak.
The main purpose of Campus Solutions is quite simple as said by Goldberg, “cover campus news, expose absurdities in a comedic way that students would enjoy and have access to via YouTube.”
Other members in Campus Solutions are: Samuel Cunningham, a sophomore mathematics and English major, Daniel Arbelaez, a sophomore journalism major, Cameron Neimand, a freshman journalism major and Michael Fuchs, a freshman business management major and neuroscience minor.
“He [Adam] pitched it as more of a secret mission than anything else,” said Neimand, when asked why he joined Campus Solutions.
Cunningham joined because he felt that, “there are so many problems with creative organizations. We need to find some solutions. We are here to solve the serious problems of morals. We don’t lie, we are the most honest news organization.”
Currently, the organization is in the middle of filming their first segment, Sex in College Park.
Last Saturday Nov. 1, they conducted filmed interviews with drunk students along Route 1 at night. They asked these drunk people their views about sex.
“Drunk people are the most honest people on campus,” said Cunningham.
Along with the filmed interviews, this past Wednesday, Nov. 5, Campus Solutions staged real life “Tinder Dates on the Mall.”
Right on the steps of McKeldin, members of Campus Solutions went up to random students passing by and asked them if they would “swipe right or left” for another random student passing by. If the match was successful, the pair would be escorted to the dating table equipped with a tablecloth, candles and roses.
In order to have the date be “successful,” optional and mandatory questions were provided. The optional questions included “Who can say their social security number faster?”
The mandatory questions covered various topics as some of the questions were: “Who were your role models,” “What is a line segment,” and “At what time does foreplay turn into fiveplay?”
When all the questions were answered, the pairs were then asked if they were ready to take the next step, sex, as that is what the Tinder app itself suggests. The pairs nervously laughed at this question and declined.

“My goal is for people to start asking: What are those Campus Solutions people up to? And what are they going to do next?” Goldberg said.
