Confession: I love my mom!

By Courtney Judd on May 23, 2012

Age 15: Gilmore Girls marathon?  Pop-tarts mandatory.

Age 16: I had my first kiss.  Yes, it was with Jason.  That is all I am going to tell you mother.  I know you want details, but no.

Age 17: Mom!  Do you want to go skinny-dipping with me? Let’s go tonight!  But, really…I’m serious.

Age 18: Post-prom hair drama.  Mom, my head is going to explode.  Please, kind dear pull the bobby pins out at the speed of light and massage my head until it stops pounding.  Girl, you da best!

Age 19: As if my life couldn’t get awkward enough…my butt is huge and I have no boobs.  I need some good bras to make me falsely look better proportioned.  Will you please go with me, despite the fact that bra shopping is horribly boring and mundane?

Age 20: I’m coming home at the end of June, so guess what that means?  We’re getting pedicures together!  Get pumped.

The pop-tarts made us sick.  She eventually pried the details out of me about the kiss.  We never went skinny-dipping.  She rapidly removed the tens of millions of bobby pins out of my hair and her magic fingers luckily restored feeling to my head again after vast efforts.  She helped me pick out the bras at Victoria Secret and trust me they’re fabulous.  It’s only May, so the pedicures are pending. If you haven’t caught on yet, let me further explain our relationship….

Last Christmas break my homeward bishop called and asked me to give a talk on New Years Day.  I hesitantly said yes, hung up the phone, threw my head back in despair and cried “Why?  Wuuuuuhy?!  Wuuuuuuhy?!?!?!”  Teasing me, my mom laughed so hard she literally peed her pants.  Shocked she shrieked “Oh no!!!”  Her mocking finger quickly shot down while mine simultaneously rose up.  It was my turn to point and laugh shamelessly.  Yes, this is indeed our relationship.

We scream and fight on occasion, we laugh and talk for hours on end, but best of all we love each other on every day of the week.  Sunday through Saturday for the rest of ever she will always be my mom and best friend.  As a college student making time for mom can be tough especially if you live far away, but memories, phone calls, and visits bind mothers and daughters together so don’t neglect those three areas or else dire consequences will kick in a.k.a your life will be depressingly dull because moms are the best!
