“I’m going to be a little bit funny this evening so I hope you will bear with me,” Ban Ki-Moon warned in a shy voice during the U.N. Correspondents Association’s awards banquet last year.

Not only is the UN Secretary-General super funny in that awkward sort of way, he has also invited world leaders to attend this year’s U.N. Climate Summit in NYC on September 23: an event that will spark global climate action and raise environmental awareness.

Here are 9 reasons why Ban Ki-Moon is our hot topic of the month. I promise you will want to be friends with him and fight for world peace alongside him, so you can hear all of his corny jokes.

1. The man has no shame.

In this video of the UN Correspondents’ Dinner, he reveals his Netflix account number, his shoe size, the fact that he has a hidden tattoo—somewhere—and that he’s a boxers, not briefs, kind of guy.

2. He can break it down.

To honor the rapper Jay-Z’s humanitarian work with the worldwide non-profit organization, Water for Life, Ban performed an awkwardly-endearing rhyming “rap” at the UN Global Leadership Awards in 2008. Read his kickin’ lyrics here.

“Come at me, world. I’m ready for this.”

3. He knows how to Gangnam style. (At least the horse- riding part.)

‘Nuff said.

4. He holds an award entitled the Order of Friendship

The award is a most respected honor given by the Republic of Kazakhstan to individuals who promote friendship, peace and cooperation between people, both internationally and civically. His next task? To be initiated in the Order of the Phoenix.

5. He was given a pet bull from the South Sudanese president.

Its name? …

… Ban Ki-Moo, naturally!

6. AND he’s adopted a lion cub from the Nairobi Animal Orphanage.

Its name is Tumaini, which means “hope” in Kenya’s language of Kiswahili.

Darn, I was hoping for “Simban.”

7. He supports Malala and her fight for education rights around the globe.

“We must empower women and girls, we must speak up for justice, we must stand up to forces of division and discord.”

8. He’s striving to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality, reduce child mortality and more.
