One Nation by Dr. Ben Carson: A Review
One of the best books I’ve read is One Nation by Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Carson has been making a buzz in regards to being a potential candidate running for president in 2016 even though he says he’s not interested in the position. Nevertheless, One Nation is one to read in order to grasp a sense of urgency to get informed about what is going horribly wrong in America today.
Carson addresses issues such as political correctness, healthcare, education, and most important, makes it clear that we need to remember the framework and foundation that this country was born on. He attacks the idea of electing people strictly based on Republican and Democrat in the polls and provides his own framework for people to become more engaged the process that is currently governing our country.
He provides questions for each chapter and steps for learning and becoming more educated on the issues, and our representatives. He emphasizes history and also understanding actions that we have taken as individuals in order to improve ourselves for society. It is a bit of a self-help book and a call to action. With Dr. Carson now on Youtube explaining his views, I think he is the perfect leader to really change the political game. By that I mean, he’s encouraging people to have discussions rather than ignore each other and govern by the ideology of their party.
His book is a wake up call to Americans to get informed with how our country is working and understand who is the best for our country and who isn’t. Whether we agree with what he has to see is not his goal. His goal is to encourage us to willingly learn to choose who is responsible for holding public office. His book is empowering and needs to be read by people especially those who are in college. Since we are the millennial generation going into troubling times where short term solutions for the present are burdening us with long term debt that we will be saddled with in the future, it is crucial that we get educated.
I’m not mandating anyone read this book because this is a successful doctor who is gaining popularity for his opinion, I’m encouraging it because people truly need to understand and get informed about what is going on in this country. Agreeing and disagreeing isn’t the point, but having a relevant discussion and understand this country is an obligation that we owe to ourselves and truly advancing as a society.
