Memorial Tournament Recap
The Memorial Tournament, held at the Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio, just outside Columbus, is a tournament hosted by former pro golfer Jack Nicklaus. The tournament is part of the Nationwide Insurance PGA Tour.
Nicklaus, a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, was nicknamed the “Golden Bear” during his professional career. ”Golden Bear” is also the school’s mascot.
Many say that Nicklaus has been the best professional golfer to date, and many have compared his statistics to Tiger Woods.
The 2014 Memorial Tournament held various surprises as Japanese star golfer Hideki Matsuyama won the 2014 Memorial Tournament on Sunday, marking his first professional win in North America.
Matsuyama won the tournament by defeating Kevin Na of South Korea in a playoff. Bubba Watson of the United States finished in third place. Rory Mcilroy of the United Kingdom finished for a share of 15th place.
While the tournament hosts PGA players from Woods to Phil Mickelson to Bubba Watson, etc., the tournament also gathers local and national names outside of the golf world as well. Woods did not participate in the 2014 Memorial Tournament due to recovering from back surgery.
Ohio State football head coach Urban Meyer, and resident of Dublin, Ohio, attended the Memorial Tournament. Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was also in attendance.
In addition to national names attending, the worldwide groups attended too. According to various reports, the FBI and Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) met with Mickelson to discuss a possible insider trading incident involving him, William Walters, a professional gambler, and Carl Icahn, a trader on Wall Street.
While the FBI and SEC don’t always show up at the Memorial Tournament, it is always held during the last week in May.
While nothing has yet been decided on Mickelson, Walters, and Icahn, it’s certain the FBI and SEC will do a thorough investigation into the insider trading.
