Why "New Girl" Isn't Just for Girls
New Girl, the hit comedy starring Zooey Deschanel, has just finished its third season. The quirky sitcom has been renewed for a fourth season, likely to air this September. It focuses on Jess, Deschanel’s character, who at the start is the new girl moving into an apartment with three strange men. While the main character is a girl, the show is not just for women. Here’s why:
1. A Male-Dominated Cast
Three out of the five main characters are men (and that’s IF you count Cece). New Girl focuses just as much on the bond between the guys and their hilarious shenanigans as it does on Jess’s crazy life. And the chemistry between the actors creates comedic gold.
2. You Can Relate!
Whether it’s the sarcastic underachiever Nick Miller (Jake Johnson), the try-hard bow tie-wearer Schmidt (Max Greenfield), or the competitive ex-athlete Winston (Lamorne Morris), chances are you can relate to one. If not, with personalities so across the board, you probably know someone who reminds you of one of these goofy guys.
3. Hot Girls!
You may be into the “adorkable” off-beat type, like Jess, or her strong model friend Cece (Hannah Simone), or ogle over both of these knock-outs for their own stunning traits. If you don’t like either, well, you’re just crazy.
4. It Gets Deep … But Not Too Deep.
If fart jokes and hot girls don’t always do it for you, don’t worry! New Girl focuses on relationships, so the story lines are pretty thought out. The show has also been nominated for many awards, including numerous Golden Globes and Emmys. So you can feel a little more sophisticated than when you watch South Park and Family Guy.
5. Girls Watch It!
Some guys may not care about this, but if you’ve got a girlfriend, it’s a good alternative to some show about a wedding dress. Or if you don’t, and want to find common ground with a girl, there’s a good chance she likes New Girl … perfect filler chat for that second date lull in conversation.
