An Ode to Running
I am out of school, my schedule is free
Time to get back into shape, time to get sweaty
Wait, I gotta stretch and tie up my shoes
Let’s get outside to run off last night’s booze
I will start with walking, nothing intense
I will start jogging after I pass that fence
Here we go, ready to burn some fat
All of which I put on in winter when I ate and sat
Exactly how long have I been jogging for?
I feel like I am going to die
Only ten minutes in, why god why
That crosswalk is blinking stop
I will get there quickly so I rest
I feel like I am failing, though I am trying my best
Why did I stop going to the gym again?
Why did I take such a long break?
I used to jog just fine, now a half-hour jog I just can’t take
My shorts are riding up and I hate this song
This is hell, but my reward will come when I am done
When I can flop on my bed with my cats after this run
Endorphins will flow through my body
Then I will eat a cheeseburger
I still have a few good years of my metabolism.
