Is your Greek chapter the “most epic” in the nation? If so, check out this new Greek championship contest for students in Greek Life across the nation.

How does a trip to EDC Las Vegas for 25 chapter members, $25,000 to plan a chapter formal and a party bus for an entire semester sound?

According to this press releaseQUADJusCollege and The Social Life, three collegiate brands with a customer focus on college students involved in Greek Life, have teamed up to launch a new competition to find the “most epic” Greek chapter in the nation, set to begin on April 2 and run through May 31. Winners are announced on June 2.

“We looked at our target audiences and the majority of all of our customers are Greek,” said Matthew Murphy, CEO of Quad. “Because it’s our customer base, we wanted to really give them something cool, give them this title and this crown they can win.”

JusCollege is a brand which focuses on travel and The Social Life produces customized apparel for Greek Life, while Quad is a large group messaging app.

“Quad is the only group chat product that can handle up to 500 people in discussions, so it’s perfect for large fraternities and sororities to talk, communicate, organize, plan events and make things happen,” Murphy said.

The competition is in its pre-entry phase right now.

“Greek chapters can go to greekchamps.com, pre-enter their group … and then they’ll receive an email back with instructions on how to get their group set up, so that once the competition starts on April 2, they hit the ground running,” he said.

When a chapter pre-enters, they are entering themselves in the competition and then the next step is to download Quad and create a Quad for their chapter, Murphy said.

“Quad already has like 30,000 groups on the product using it, so it’s very easy, it’s a great communication tool,” he said. “So it’s really beneficial for them to get all of their members on before the competition starts so that when it starts everyone’s chatting and they get as many points as they can.”

When the competition starts, chapters earn points by using Quad for their group.

“The more they use Quad to communicate and organize themselves and plan events–do what a chapter normally does–the more points they earn,” Murphy said.

How important is it to use Quad? Murphy said a multiplying factor is in place that goes up or down depending on your activity on Quad.

“Say you use Quad four days in a row. You could actually get a multiplying factor for points of 1.5 or 2. But then if you start missing days, the multiplying factor goes down. So it really does benefit the people who do switch and start using this product.”

Winning the contest comes down to the proportion of your chapter using Quad.

“If you have 20 members and you get all 20 of them on, you have a better chance of winning over someone with 100 members that gets 50 on,” Murphy said. “So it’s really key to get the majority of your chapter on and it’s really key to start using Quad to communicate and chat.”

The more a chapter uses Quad, takes part in weekly competitions and refers other chapters or people, the more points they get.

“So it’s really important that if you’re in it, and you guys feel like you’re the most epic chapter out there, then go full bore on it,” Murphy said.

Weekly competitions can include anything from contests like posting a Vine on “a day in the life of” your chapter or posting a picture on Instagram or Facebook showing why your chapter has the best leadership principles or things along those lines (most photo/Vine views wins!). In addition, full on-the-ground scavenger hunts, where chapter members receive tips and clues through Quad, are fair game.

“There will be a lot of different mini-contests,” Murphy said. “We’ll tie in a lot of fun social media aspects and we’ll also do raffles and give away kind of random prizes too.”

Murphy said that they are also currently running a pre-entry competition.

“The group that refers the most amount of chapters at their school will win custom-made t-shirts from Social Life for their entire chapter, $2,000 in value for them,” he said.

Speaking of prizes, Murphy said basically, they are giving away over $250,000 in prizes to the chapters in the contest.

“We’re going to be giving away a trophy to the first place group but there will be prizes for first, second and third and also maybe the fourth and fifth,” he said. “We’re still figuring those details out.”

Prizes include a trip for 25 members to EDC Las Vegas; $25,000 to plan a chapter formal; and a party bus available for the whole semester. Murphy said these prizes really appeal to the Greek chapters.

“I mean, 25 trips to EDC, which is completely sold out, so they’re going to get the royal treatment in Vegas,” he said. “And then number two is $25,000 towards their formal, and the third prize is the party bus for the whole semester, so literally like every Friday and Saturday night, you have a party bus at your disposal.”

Murphy said the three brands are being selective on the other brands they bring in, to ensure these brands appeal to Greek Life, but the brands they do choose will bring in more cool prizes and surprises.

All chapters are welcome to participate in this contest, regardless of size. Seeing past competitions where “only the big ones win,” Murphy said there are algorithms in place that make it equal for a group of 20 compared to a group of 300, and so small chapters can even come in first place.

“The way the algorithm is written, it doesn’t matter your size,” he said. “We want everyone to feel like they have a fair shot.”

The current splash page for the competition will flip over to the competition website on April 2 at midnight, where you will be able to see every chapter that has been pre-entered and you can go in and support your chapter. Friends, parents, chapter members—basically anyone can go in and support any chapter they wish, which goes towards a chapter’s total score.

“Everything they do each week will be tracked towards that, so we have algorithms on the backend that are tracking all of this in the database,” Murphy said. “It will be updated in real time who is in first, second, third, fourth, all the way down to 5,000 or how many chapters are in it.”

Because you can only support one chapter in this contest, according to Murphy, it is important to make sure your chapter is the one everyone is supporting.

While this is the first annual competition, the three groups behind this were in it to make it a long term thing, Murphy said.

“With each new year the competition comes, the groups can compete again to try and keep the crown or the trophy and if they win they can keep it and if they lose, they pass it on to the next chapter,” he said.
