Beyoncé's Surprise Album Takes Top Spot
Once again, Queen Bey has reminded us that this is her world and we are just lucky to be a part of it.
After releasing her new self-entitled visual album at midnight on Dec. 13, with no announcement, no promotion, and certainly no leaks, Beyoncé took the world by storm with her air of confidence.
All fans needed was an Instagram post from the iconic star for them to temporarily shut down iTunes from all their furious downloads.
If anyone had any doubt about Bey choosing to release this album the way she did, they are certainly kicking themselves now. Beyoncé’s new album is currently number one on iTunes in 100 countries. Yes, 100 countries, triple digits. And with that she dethroned One Direction’s record of 97 countries with their album, Midnight Memories. The queen took her rightful place back at the top.
Fans and critics all over the world (literally) are praising this new territory Beyoncé has brought them into. From erotic and steamy sexual fantasies (“Partition”), to modern feminism (“Flawless” and “Pretty Hurts”), to being a loving and adoring mother (“Blue”), Beyoncé does not hold back. Each song and video takes her fans on a new and captivating journey.
With 14 songs and 17 videos, Bey partners up with husband Jay-Z, as well as Drake, Frank Ocean, and even her daughter, Blue Ivy who makes an appearance.
“I see music,” Beyoncé stated in a press release, to explain the visual album. “It’s more than just what I hear. When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.”
Did I mention the album sold 80,000 copies in the first three hours? And, according to Billboard, she and her album are headed to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 when its top 10 are released on Wed., Dec. 18, five days after the album’s debut.
You can bow down now.
