Chris Militello, a life-long cyclist and owner of Arrow Bicycle, is one of many residents that are excited for the prospect of bringing the Capital Bikeshare program to Hyattsville, Md.

?People are going to pay into it and realize cycling is great,? said Militello. ?It?s a gateway drug.?

Militello has co-owned the bike store with Chris Davidson, located on 5108 Baltimore Ave., for six years. He believes that the bikeshare program will expand the market.

?It becomes a low-cost way of trying to ride a bike,? said Militello.

He added that the way the bikeshare cost structure is set up, people will realize it?s more cost-efficient to own their own bike.

Hyattsville is already working on more alternatives to low-cost and green public transportation options, and is ?currently in the process of completing one of the legs of our sustainable community action plan,? said Councilman Patrick Paschall.

The development includes bike lanes and bike signage around the city, and the addition of the bikshare program will connect the three major development zones in Hyattsville, said Paschall.

With ?each municipality putting their own [Capital Bikeshare docks] in,? said Militello, Hyattsville should join College Park in adding stations to connect students to the Route 1 corridor.
