Spring Happenings at DU

By Rayna Healy on April 17, 2012
Sunshine and spring time mean many events on the University of Denver campus. School work is as busy as ever, but there are a lot more opportunities to unwind and enjoy the weather. This seems to be the time of year where the most student activities are held, making it an exciting and fun-filled quarter for everyone.

Greek Week kicked off the quarter. David Coleman, the date doctor, came and proctored a Presidential Debate and gave hilarious dating advice. Unfortunately he left out the dance moves that he taught his clients in Hitch. Intramural Volleyball and Flag Football tournaments were week long and brought out a competitive edge. The events brought in clothing donations and school supplies for Denver Public Schools. It was a great week to inspire bonding and solidarity between the different teams and houses on campus. In the end, Alpha Phi and Zeta Beta Tau won the whole thing.
Lambda Chi Alpha had their annual “Mustache Bash” during Greek Week. It is a seventies inspired philanthropy event which raised  $200,000 for a Sports Center for the disabled. However, for the students, this evening means a proliferation of facial hair and particularly crazy mustaches amongst the men of campus. It is a great event that everyone can attend and enjoy and the money goes to a great cause. ZBTahiti was another fun beach themed philanthropy event and there are many more to come, such as Bright and Tight and Black and White.

Lacrosse games have come to campus along with a lot of school spirit. Huge tailgates precede the games on campus. These tailgates have food and fun and students flock to them. Alumni are excited to get involved as the school spirit increases at events like these. We look forward to seeing the Men’s team at the Final Four again this year.

There are plenty of ways to get involved on campus in the Spring Time, with plenty more to look forward too. Whether you want to cheer on the Lacrosse team or just sit on the Green and enjoy the sunshine, it is hard to argue with the fact that Spring quarter is the best time to be around DU. So get out, relax, and enjoy what beautiful Denver and the many groups and organizations have to offer at DU.
