7 Signs That You're an Ohioan
Ohioans are known across the country for some basic stereotypes. Some are weirdly hilarious typecasts, while others are shockingly too familiar. So here it goes: seven signs you are a true Ohioan.
1. Most of your wardrobe consists of scarlet and gray.
In Ohio, OSU sports are a big deal–especially football. Representing Ohio State is very important to us Ohioans; we will wear layers upon layers of Ohio State apparel to cheer on our Buckeyes! So many layers can easily cause our wardrobe to be consumed by scarlet and gray.
2. You don’t expect great NFL seasons.
Even with Ohio having two professional football teams, Ohio doesn’t get to see many super bowl rings, unfortunately. This doesn’t stop their fans from cheering their asses off, though! Bengal and Browns fans are dedicated and are probably the most loyal fans out there. No matter how many losses they experience their fans are still cheering for them on Sunday.
3. You are WAY too familiar with driving through construction.
Construction is EVERYWHERE in Ohio. The highways are under construction so frequently that people outside Ohio joke about how construction is its own season here.
4. You have actually experienced all four seasons… in one day!
There are days, usually during the ends the seasons (not always the case), where it will snow in the morning, sleet and rain in the afternoon, and be sunny in the evening. This actually occurs more than anyone, even Ohioans, expect.
5. You never truly put your winter or summer clothes away.
Because of the rapid daily weather changes, you might need your jean shorts/T-shirt during part of the day and pants/sweaters for the other. This can cause our closets to be a little overwhelming.
6. You refer to M$ch%g@n as “the state up north.”
If you are an Ohio State fan, you know that Michigan will always suck and that the rivalry between the states is intense. Defeating them in football is a great way to start our winter break!
7. Watching sports in below freezing weather is just part of the season.
Just because it is getting colder outside doesn’t mean that viewings of your favorite sporting events are moved indoors. Layering clothes and putting that beer coat on are frequent occurrences, because in Ohio we stick by our teams!
