Local Random Acts of Kindness
This is exactly what the INSAN organization is promoting this September. During the months of September and October, INSAN is sponsoring several neighborhood drives collecting school supplies for children of homeless and underprivileged families, including AIDS and HIV patients. They are encouraging everyone to participate in this drive whether it be donating a few dollars or by picking up extra school supplies while doing your own ‘back to school’ shopping. The main goal by creating this event is to bring awareness of the families that are less fortunate at this time of year. It is shocking that many families living in communities around the corner from our campus will never have the opportunity to experience the same advantages that we as students of a Cal State University have been able to experience.
During these next two months, INSAN will be collecting the items as listed: backpacks, pens, pencils, color pencils, crayons, highlighters, markers, sharpies, notebooks, binders, binder dividers, folders, ruled paper, printer paper, graph paper, construction paper, erasers, white out, sharpeners, all purpose & stick glue, scissors, note/index cards, pencil pouches, and scientific andor graph calculators. They welcome all school supplies whether they are used or new. For example, if you find that there is a scientific calculator or extra notebooks hanging around your room collecting dust- they welcome it greatly.
If you would like to know more about the INSAN organization you can find them at WWW.insanefoundation.org or can be contacted at insanmission@gmail.com. Overall, the Back 2 School drive shows to bring about great awareness to the community of our neighbors and friends. Little by little our community is lending a helping hand and who knows maybe one day we might need that hand to help us.
