The Many Wonders of Google Drive

By Benjamin Paley on December 17, 2016

I remember the first time I used Google Drive — I was a high school junior.

Google Drive was officially the coolest thing I could be using at the time (considering most of my classmates had Blackberries and I was still using a flip phone). By simply having a Gmail account, I could use all the features of Google Drive. I could write a document, make a powerpoint presentation, or create a spreadsheet, all within the space of a Google cloud. No longer would I have to worry whether or not the computer I was using had Microsoft Office on it. From now on, the only thing I needed to know was whether or not the computer I was using had access to the internet.

Today, Google Drive has evolved to include even more features, including Google Photos and Google Videos.

You don’t even need to have internet access anymore to make changes or create a project on Google Drive.

Here are a couple of fun projects you can do through Google Drive:

Family reunion photo slideshow: Now with Google Drive you don’t need to email all of your family members individually to send them your photos from the last reunion. Instead, you can make the presentation through Google Drive and share it with your family. That way, everyone has it, and if anyone, individually, wants to make edits, they can save it in their drive as their own project and make whatever edits they want.

Presentation of tasks for holiday dinner: Instead of individually telling each person what their task is for preparing for your holiday dinner, simply make a Google doc, sheet or presentation that lists all of the tasks and who needs to complete them. Then, share it with all guests. Now, everyone knows what they are supposed to be doing (and what the others are supposed to be doing as well).

Chore list: I remember having a chore list posted on the fridge in my family’s house and everyone had their chore to do. But what if you no longer had to even post it to the fridge? Make a Google sheet and share it with the other family members in your household. Now, everyone knows what their chore is; and the sheet is able to be changed and comments can be added tagging certain family members who you want the comment to reach. It’s still communication, but in the form of a shared spreadsheet.

Google Drive is available as a downloaded app for your mobile phone or tablet.
