Outside of taxes and funerals, one of the most difficult things to deal with in life is moving. We don’t like change to begin with, but when it becomes inevitable, we tend to spend a lot of money trying to make it easier. Renting or leasing a new place is a joy especially when it is done. Moving everything you have can be a hassle and a headache.

One of the reasons moving is so difficult is because of the furniture. The antique dining room table. The wooden chairs from the early 1900s that your dear mother passed down to you on your wedding day. The beautiful love seat you bought on the spur of the moment while out window shopping. It is things like this that you likely want to keep.

What happens when you move from one city to another or even from one side of town to the other? Well, you have to make a decision. Either spend thousands on moving all that stuff or spend thousands on finding someone to buy all that stuff. Who has time for that?

Enter rental furniture. Renting furniture takes the pain and panic out of moving. You don’t have to worry about assembling or damaging furniture during its transport because it is all on the furniture company. Then when you get ready to leave, the furniture company will come back and deconstruct it all, load it up, and take it back to the warehouse for the next wise renter.

While some people like to own the things in their house, here are five ways renting furniture can make your life more convenient and a little bit of heaven on earth:

1. Keep some of the cash up-front.

When you rent furniture instead of buying it outright, you get to keep some of that hard-earned cash longer. You will make payments on the rentals over time (biweekly or monthly or even bimonthly in some cases), however, you won’t have to kick out several hundred or several thousand dollars all at one time. This works well for you especially if you are fresh out of college, just landed your first “real” job and have not quite settled down just yet.

2. Test drive the furniture.

Another advantage that follows from the last point is that renting gives you a chance to test out the furniture and see if you like it. If you’re going to stay in your place for a good while, perhaps two or three years, you can see if the furniture sits well with your tastes and living space design. If it does not, you can always change it out with another rental that is more to your liking. Additionally, if you never plan to buy the furniture but don’t want your living space to be bare, renting it out makes for a good compromise. One downside to this is that you will, in some cases, pay a hefty lot in fees so try to be aware of that.

3. Save on damages and repairs.

This goes more for rental appliances but it could work for rental furniture as well. Getting repairs and damages fixed can cost a pretty penny but when it is all rented, all you have to do in most cases is return it to the rental company for a new one, or they will send someone out to fix it free of charge. This saves you a good deal of time and money and you can avoid warranty expirations and agreement deadlines too.

4. Experience fast turnaround time.

For the most part, the majority of furniture rental companies can have you up and running within 24 to 48 hours. It obviously depends a lot on availability, timing and how much assembling will need to be done. Buying furniture takes a little bit more time and since it is likely going to be permanently placed at least for an indefinite time, more logistics go into selecting the right furniture and then ensuring enough space is available in the home for the furniture company to move it in and assemble it.

5. Enjoy peace of mind.

This all boils down to having a bit of peace when your head hits the pillow at night. Acquiring new furniture can be a hassle and stress to begin with, not counting the time and money that has to go into it. But when you know you can always take it back, get it replaced, and get it repaired, it makes for a lot less stressing and a lot more living.
