With Halloween fast approaching at the end of the month, it’s time to start getting into the holiday spirit — and that means it’s time to get your apartment and furniture decorated for Halloween.

Here are some tips on how you can decorate your rental furniture for Halloween so your home starts embodying the spooky and fun holiday.

1. Themed Blankets. To make your couch more Halloween-esque, consider getting a Halloween throw blanket. You can probably find a Halloween-themed blanket among the various Halloween decorations and stuff in stores, or you can make your own.

If you want more of a DIY blanket project, head to an art store or the crafts aisle and look for an orange and black or Halloween-themed blanket fabric print. You can then make your blanket as big as you want by choosing the dimensions of the fabric.

For a warmer blanket, consider picking two different patterns, getting them cut the same size, and then cutting fringes along the sides of both fabrics and tying them together to make the two patterns into one heavier blanket. If you like, you can even choose a Halloween pattern and a Christmas pattern if you want to start thinking ahead to Christmas decorations and make your blanket appropriate for two holidays, as you’ll just flip the blanket over to show whichever side matches the holiday occurring.

2. Halloween Pillows. Decorate your bed, couch, and chairs with cute Halloween pillows. You can get orange and black pillows, pillows with little bats or jack-o-lanterns on them, or pumpkin-shaped pillows and place them around your apartment or house.

If you don’t want to buy more pillows just for the holiday, you can buy fabric — or cut some that you bought to make your blanket and use it to make your own pillowcases for your already-owned pillows. If there’s not much fabric left over from your blanket, use the pieces to tie bows around your pillows so you get a bit of Halloween flavor throughout your home and decor.

3. Pumpkins. Nothing says Halloween like pumpkins. In addition to buying one for your stoop or for jack-o-lantern carving, consider getting a few smaller ones to decorate your apartment or house. They can be a great and easy Halloween decoration for various tables around your home, adding some Halloween fun to your staircase inside, or if you have a fireplace, you can create a nice gathering of pumpkins in there and spilling out of it so your living room/den area feels autumnal and Halloween-y.

4. Candles. Even if they’re not orange or black or pumpkin spice-scented, there’s something about candles that just get you in a more spooky mood. To decorate your tables and/or mantle, consider putting out a ton of candles.

Even if you don’t light them all until Halloween night, you’ll be feeling the spirit well before then with just a few candles lit when you feel like it, and your home will look super cool and creepy lit by candle.

5. Spiderwebs. If you haven’t dusted your place in a while, you may find you actually have some natural cobwebs and spiderwebs in corners; but hopefully, you keep your home nice and clean, so you’ll have to purposefully put some webs up to get ready for Halloween.

You can hang webs not only from the ceiling and on walls and in corners, but also drape webs on chairs, your couch, doorways, and more fun places throughout your apartment or house to decorate your furniture and home for Halloween.

6. Candy Bowls. Most people would agree that the best part of Halloween is probably the candy. And with it on sale pretty much everywhere, now’s the time to get your candy on and splurge on all your favorite bars and treats. Candy doesn’t just have to be for eating though — put some of it in bowls on your coffee table, kitchen table, counters, etc., so your place is ready, candy-wise at least, for Halloween.

Candy corn in particular can be a great Halloween decoration if you put it in a clear glass bowl so the colors are visible and reminds you of the holiday.

7. Other Decor. If you want to go cheaper when it comes to decorating your furniture and home for Halloween, you can go old-school. Cut out paper spiderwebs, bats, ghosts, and pumpkins on colored paper and hang on your walls, on doors, on the backs of chairs, on the fronts of your cabinets, and your fridge for spooky and fun holiday vibes throughout your house or apartment.

These are just some of the ways you can get your furniture and apartment or house ready for Halloween — and however you choose to decorate, you’ll surely start feeling the holiday spirit! Happy Halloween!
