When living with roommates, there is a lot to compromise on. Who pays for what, who cleans what, who gets to decorate what room? Sometimes a flip of a coin can solve this dilemma, whereas other times you may actually have to talk it out. Keep it to words, not actions, people.

There are always going to be necessities needed, and there is always going to be that (at least) one disagreeable roommate who feels like it is not their job to clean up after themselves. They are going to learn today.

To discover which 3 apartment necessities you need, continue to read below.

Renting furniture

Furniture is a huge part of your apartment. It is what people use to sit on and eat, and it is what most first take notice of once in your house. However, it is not always an easy thing to agree with your roomies on what furniture to buy. If you rent said furniture, then you can easily return it at the end of your lease, and not have to worry about taking it with you when you move.

Plus, when you rent furniture you will not have to stress over which roommate gets to keep which item, and worry about a wine stain that was put there during the first week of classes. Renting also means that you have a selection of what to pick from beforehand. There are usually catalogues or a bundle deal that the entire apartment can be a part of.

Even if you all disagree on which specific furniture you want for the house or a certain room, you can agree on the fact that it is cheap and effective for college students. Most of us do not desire commitment anyway, so it works out in the end.

Cleaning supplies

It is very rare when someone enjoys to clean. It is just so time consuming, physically and mentally exhausting, and somewhat expensive to purchase all of the required supplies. However, you still need to buy them because a clean house is a happy house, or something like that.

If you have that volatile roommate, or you happen to be that person, then you definitely need to learn how to be on board with this. Cleaning is a responsibility that having your own apartment or house comes with. Cleaning after yourself for one, and then helping out around the house for two.

When living in your apartment, the first rule of thumb is that you actually enjoy living there. Whether this be with your roomies or not, you should always try to make the best of it. So throw on some comfy sweats, jam to your favorite ’80s band, and then get to cleaning away. You will be happy that you did.

Kitchen musts

One of the best parts about moving into a house is that you actually own a kitchen now. So long to cafeteria food and having to pay for everything. Now you can pay for everything, but then make it yourself at your lovely abode. Plus, you can split the cost of groceries with your roomies, if they are about that life. How great.

If everyone disagrees on the style of the house in general, especially the kitchen, then you can pull straws or talk it out. Maybe each of you can get your own element into the design, and if all you care about is the pricing of items, then your job is extremely easy. Go to the nearest donation center or look on Amazon for the cheapest of cheap.

There are a ton of kitchen utensils that are pretty necessary, such as pots and pans, dish towels, silverware, plates, etc. The list truly goes on. Then there is the décor task of finding which things you want to decorate. There is usually a clock, some form of pictures, and then the rugs. This way, every roommate kind of has a say and you can all have a little piece of you to represent your combined space.

Living with roommates is hard, and add in a roommate that is quite disagreeable and you have found yourself in a fun situation. It is very normal to have differing perspectives, interests, and of course style. The key is communication, as always, and to be honest with each other. There is nothing worse than coming home with a gift for the house and then you realize that no one even liked the color green. What a bummer.

There are a ton of apartment necessities that you sort of just need to buy, regardless if you personally think so. Like that plunger that you think is 100 percent useless until your roomie happens to clog the toilet. Fun times. Even when you disagree on most things, you can agree on the facts that renting furniture, buying cleaning supplies, and having kitchen utensils are all completely necessary for your house.
