Have you ever wondered where some of the fiction characters that we have come to know and love would go to grad school if they were real? For argument’s sake, let’s take on the cast of The Hunger Games, and see if we can match them to their perfect schools.

Katniss Everdeen

Katniss, the main character in The Hunger Games, is a very smart young lady with a drive to go far in life, which definitely makes her a great grad school candidate. Considering her concern for the well-being of the people and her very prominent role in bettering the political world of Panam, we can assume that the field of political science is where Katniss would really shine.

Katniss also likes going into the forest to de-stress and to feel like her old self, so not only would the school she attends need to have a great program, it would also need to have awesome scenery.

The verdict? Katniss Everdeen should attend UC Santa Cruz. Offering a path for her to receive her PhD in politics while providing an extensive forest for Katniss to explore and even live in (there is a campground area), Katniss would feel at home while striving for her degree.

Peeta Mellark

Peeta is a kind and gentle soul, with a knack for baking as well as art. Considering that he evaded “The careers” by painting himself to blend in with the surrounding nature, we can assume that Peeta would fare rather well getting his Master’s in art.

Since he won’t want to be too far away from Katniss, we will put him in Stanford University, where he will get his Master’s in art and art history. They have an extensive program that he will highly enjoy, he’ll be able to see Katniss on the weekends, and he’ll be able to discover which direction he wants to take his degree after he graduates.

Primrose Everdeen

Prim, following in the footsteps of her mother, is a wonderful healer, and would do well in pursuing this, so medical school would be the route for her. Prim is a very sharp and smart individual, and though she is still quite young, it’s never too early to start planning which grad school you want to go to.

Assuming that if Prim could have attended grad school she would have studied excessively and passed all the entry tests with flying colors, we will put her at Johns Hopkins University. Prim would be making her family proud, and would be giving back to the community every step of the way.

Gale Hawthorne

Gale, AKA Katniss’s best friend until the last book/movie, was also a huge part of the revolution and keeping people safe. This is why Gale would be most suited to go after a graduate degree in Law Enforcement Intelligence and Analysis. With this degree, he’ll be able to work towards keeping people safe, and be a driving force in stopping further corruption from happening.

Considering the falling out between him and Katniss, we can assume he wouldn’t really want to go to a school that is too close to her. Factoring that in as well as looking for a good program, Gale should get his Master’s at Michigan State University. The place is gorgeous and still nature-y, so when he wants to reminisce on old times with Katniss he can disappear into the forest, and he will also be getting a great education in a field that is calling his name.

Let’s hope he stays driven enough to pull through with the degree.

Caesar Flickerman

Caesar is such a character and the camera sure does love him, so it makes the most sense for him to go into something to do with acting. Plays, movies, films, musical theater, who knows! The sky is the limit, and Caesar will best be able to fulfill his performing dream by attending NYU for his Master’s.

There are many performing art forms that he would be able to specialize in and to play around with, and the buzz of New York would be perfect for his personality, so it seems like the ideal fit.

Effie Trinket

Effie is all about what she wears and how her hair and makeup match her ensemble, so it would seem quite fitting for her to get her Master’s in fashion. Effie is very picky, and likes to keep up with a certain lifestyle, so location is going to be a big thing for her (she is used to the Capitol life after all). Ravensbone in the UK seems like a perfect fit for her. She’ll be able to go after her fabulous dream in a place that suits her well.

These are just a few of The Hunger Games characters that really would have made it big in the grad school world. Personality and interests really come into play when picking the right grad school, so when you are assessing grad school for yourself, keep those things in mind like we did for these characters.
