Waco is a lovely city in Texas halfway between the cities of Austin and Dallas. It’s the home of Baylor University, but that isn’t the only draw for young adults.

It’s got hot summers and mild winters, it’s got a diverse population, the median age is 28, and the ratio of males to females is pretty darn close.

But if you are still not convinced about Waco, Texas (or you’re moving there anyways), here are some places to check out to either make your move easier or for once you’ve made the big move!

Armstrong Browning Library

With gorgeous stained windows and a collection of memorabilia of the poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, for whom the library is named, this library is a must-stop for any newcomer to the city. It’s located right on the Baylor University campus and is free to the public. It can be a quiet, serene place to read, study, and meditate.

Waco Mammoth Site

How often do you have the opportunity to see the remains of what was once a real life mammoth? There are several onsite and you can look directly into the dig from a deck built overhead. There are tour guides available and the site is only a five minute drive from downtown Waco.

It’s got a fascinating history and played a fundamental role in the creation of the city of Waco.

It is a house converted into studio space and gallery open to the public. It’s a welcoming and interesting place for any newcomer (or longtime resident) to visit. It’s a bright, colorful, and cheerful place to visit, either to look around or to stock up on new art to decorate your home.

When you’re in a new place, you should definitely try out the local cuisine. Why eat at the same old chain restaurants that you can eat at everywhere else? Try something different and unique so that you can get a taste of the new town you are in. In Waco, the place to try is the Café Homestead.

It’s a locally owned restaurant with Americana cuisine. You can find your all American favorites here, handmade. The homemade Maple Pecan ice cream comes highly recommended.

Waco Escape Room

Get a one of a kind experience at the Waco Escape Room! Here, they build rooms around certain themes and invite visitors to figure out challenges and puzzles in order to get out of the room. There are many different levels and themes, from the Child’s Play room to the Code Breaker Room. You’re locked in a room and left with only your wits to escape!
