5 Disney Villains That Should Have Gone To Law School

There are a lot of villains in films, especially in Disney films, that always have a course of action for their “evil doings,” and yet they either don’t have the capability of executing said plans, or get caught up in the logistics and are eventually stopped by the respective hero of the story.

But what if these villains had gone to law school? Would this have changed their fate?

1. Ursula from The Little Mermaid

Ursula uses her magic to take advantage of mer-folk by taunting them with something that they truly desire at a high price. She has them sign a contract, which is inevitably fooling them, but does in fact explain to them that if they can’t follow through with the payment that they agreed on, then she gets to claim them and turn them into these creepy dead looking things as part of her collection.

Ursula definitely had the right idea about the contracts, and if she had gone to law school and had spiffed up the agreements, Triton would not have been able to rescue Ariel or any of the other mer-folk. They all knew what the price would be and what would happen if they couldn’t pay, since it would have all been laid out for them previously, and they would have signed a law abiding contract.

2. Mother Gothel from Tangled

Mother Gothel steals Rapunzel away at a young age, and raises her as her own daughter. Rapunzel grows into a young woman, and though she is hidden from the world, she does not question Gothel as being her mother. In fact, despite how horrible Gothel is to Rapunzel, they still do love one another and Rapunzel is always afraid of disappointing her.

Gothel really knows how to convince people of things, so she should have gone to law school. I’m sure she would have found some loophole as to how stealing Rapunzel was justified, and since Rapunzel thought of her as a mother, Gothel could have potentially gotten off totally free (you know, if she hadn’t died at the end of the film from being too old to function without Rapunzel’s magical hair and all). She would probably make a great defense lawyer.

3. Hans from Frozen

I think we can all agree that Hans is one of the worst villains out there! The rest all have some redeeming qualities, but not him. He is ruthless, with an amazing poker face, so law school would have suited him well.

I’m sure that if he went to law school, he could have figured out how to claim the kingdom from his other brothers instead of having to almost kill Ana and Elsa to gain power. He sucks though so he might have gone for the evil way anyway, but with the knowledge of the law, I’m sure he would have actually made it to power (so maybe it’s a good thing he didn’t go to law school …).

4. Jafar from Aladdin

Jafar is a power hungry evil villain whose plan is to marry princess Jasmine — only Jasmine isn’t very down for the idea. Her father allows her to marry Aladdin, even after it is found out that he isn’t a prince, which Jafar might have been able to counter if he had gone to law school.

The princess, according to the law, was not allowed to marry a common person, but since there was no one to enforce that, her father let her. Jafar, with his law degree, would have been able to counter this, but that wouldn’t necessarily mean that Jasmine would go for him (she definitely wouldn’t).

He does hate Aladdin though, so his degree would have allowed the wedding to be put off. Good thing he wasn’t smart enough to think of going to law school.

5. Scar from The Lion King

Scar wanted to be king, and since he didn’t have a law degree, he went about this by killing his own brother and making sure that his brother’s heir, Simba, thought his father’s death was his fault and would result in Simba never coming back to the kingdom, leaving Scar to step up.

If Scar had gone to law school, he might have been able to score the kingdom for himself in other, more humane ways, by attempting to prove his brother a bad king, or showing how Simba would not be ready to rule or something. It still would have been shady, but would it have been a better route?

He also would have had better defense techniques for when the other lions found out that he was the one who killed the king. Maybe Scar should have watched “How to Get Away with Murder.”

After pondering these over, it’s safe to say that all these villains would have benefited tremendously from a law degree. That being said, the universes that they live in would probably have gone into total chaos, and the main characters that we know and love probably wouldn’t be loving life, so we can take comfort in the fact that none of these villains actually went to law school. The Disney world would be a much different place.
