The 4 Study Supplies You Need For Success

By Danielle Wirsansky on February 7, 2016

Studying takes up the bulk of a (responsible) college student’s time. The best way to stay on track with school is to stay on track with homework and studying — and the best way to keep on top of that is to have the study supplies that you need for success.

Read on for a few suggestions of study supplies to help you out!

1. A Planner

Nothing helps more than having a planner, whether virtual or real, where you can keep track of everything that you need. Writing down homework assignments and their due dates, future dates of big assignments, exams, and important plans, and other daily tasks can only help you.

The benefit is two-fold: you can manage your time so much better because you can see everything that you have and need to do in one place as well as keep track of all assignments.

There is no trying to keep it all in your head, failing, and forgetting to do or about an assignment. It’s all right there in your own little book. When you know what’s coming ahead of time you can plan better for it and make sure that everything is accomplished.

2. A Printer

As you know if you don’t own your own printer, it can be a hassle to study or get assignments done without one. You might have to mooch off a roommate (not cool, dude) or have to schlep all the way to the campus library every time you need to print something.

Many people study better by physically printing out a handout rather than reading it on a computer screen. And for those in a class where printing assignments occurs often, it can be more than a hassle. It takes so much time out of your day that could be better spent actually studying the material rather than trying to access it.

You don’t need a fancy printer. You can get low end printers for pretty cheap and as long as you take care of them, they’ll last for a good long while. They also don’t take up that much space. Be efficient. It can only help you.

3. A Stapler

We’ve all been in class about to turn in a written assignment when we realize that we haven’t stapled it. We look around frantically to see if there is a stapler in the room, but alas, this is not high school. There is no stapler on the professor’s desk.

Sometimes we crane around lamely, trying to see if anyone around us has their own mini stapler that they carry around in their backpack (like the little over achievers that they are). Sometimes we get lucky and someone has one and is willing to share. But more often than not, we do not get lucky. All we can do is lamely fold down the corner of our paper and try not to look the professor in the eye as they collect it, pausing to give you an eye roll for your inadequacy.

Avoid this entire situation: own your own stapler! Carry one around with you inside your backpack (if that won’t get you in trouble). Don’t stress yourself out trying to find a stapler. Devote your time to studying and doing your work by just owning one yourself.

4. Index Cards

No matter how you study, flash cards can always come in handy. Thanks to handy websites like Quizlet, we can find pre-made flash cards specific to our course and professors.

But these ready-made, online flashcards have made us complacent. Studies show that the act of writing down information helps us to understand and remember it better than almost any other method of studying. The act of making your own flashcards can be just as beneficial to your studying as using the flash cards to review.

Have index cards at the ready and make one for every question or topic you feel you need to learn. Don’t skimp and try to cut down on your number of cards. Do what you have to do so you can study and learn as best you possibly can. Index cards also come in an assortment of sizes and colors so get the ones that will help you do best, whether they be giant ones where you don’t have to cramp your writing or multi-colored ones that you can color code.

If you are going to take the time to actually study, you want to use that time as effectively as possible. College students have very little time as it is between juggling studies, class, work, and social obligations. But you can do it! Just help yourself out a little bit by having the study supplies you need to make your efforts an absolute success.
