Many spend Thanksgiving day with their families at home or at a relative’s home, enjoying great food and good company and maybe even get around to watching the Macy’s Day Parade on television.

It is also a tradition for many to decorate their apartments and homes for fall and Thanksgiving, either for guests or just to get into the holiday spirit.

However, buying decorations for your home can get very expensive, so why not get crafty and make your decorations yourself? Here are some great decoration ideas to try making on your own this Thanksgiving holiday.

DIY Centerpieces

You can use these centerpieces on your kitchen table or counter, your coffee table, or even end tables. They are extremely festive and cute, but so easy to make.

Glitter Acorns

These glitter acorns are very cute and unique to have in a vase or bowl as a centerpiece. You can buy acorns at some craft stores, or just go outside and pick out the best ones you can find. You will need fall colors of glitter, like dark red, brown and orange. You can make the glitter stick to the acorns by putting a small layer of craft glue on them and dipping and rolling them in the glitter of your choice.

Having these in a clear vase or in mason jars on the kitchen table or end table will have all your guests asking where you got it.

Fall Leaf Mason Jar Candles

These cute, fall leaf decorated mason jars are the perfect fall decoration and just in time for Thanksgiving. All you will need is artificial fall leaves (found in most craft stores), Mod Podge (or an off-brand craft glue), three or more mason jars, and an applying sponge for the glue.

You can apply a thin layer of glue on the mason jars and even it out with the applying sponge before you start sticking on the leaves. You can also put candles inside the jars; this makes the jars so pretty, like the leaves are glowing. It’s a great and subtle way to decorate for Thanksgiving, if you are not into going all out.

Pine Cones & Candles

Another easy way to get your apartment in the Thanksgiving and fall spirit is to add pine cones to plain centerpieces. Like in the picture above, you can add pine cones (bought at any craft store) to a vase or bowl to make the centerpiece look more festive.

You can also add silver or gold glitter to the tips of the pine cones to make it a little more fancy looking. You can see more fall, holiday and pine cone centerpieces here.

Give Thanks Wine Bottles

Painting empty wine bottles is a super easy and fun way to decorate your apartment this Thanksgiving. There are many ways you could give wine bottles a Thanksgiving theme to show off to your friends. You can try a turkey by gluing real feathers on the back, paint fall leaves on, or maybe even paint one like corn on the cob.

However, if you are not the crafty type just painting them one color and putting some type of Thanksgiving writing on them is the easy way to go, and is still really cute and fun. You can also try using glitter on the painted words as well.

Thanksgiving Blocks

You can buy these Thanksgiving blocks online, but making them yourself is more fun! All you need is three different size wooden blocks (usually found in craft stores), ribbon, and paint. You can make several different sayings with these blocks, like the one above or split up a longer phrase like, “Happy” (block 1), “Thanks” (block 2), “Giving” (block 3).

The sky is the limit for these blocks, using whatever fall colors you like. You can also make these decorations reversible; one side can have a Thanksgiving phrase and the other can have a Christmas phrase like a picture of bells (block 1), “Jingle” (block 2), “Bells” (block 3). This way you can keep the decorations out for fall and winter, plus less to store during the spring and summer.

Fall Corn Candle

If you don’t have a crafty talent or a lot of time to make a time consuming decoration, this is perfect for you and takes seconds to make. All you need is a glass vase, a large candle and popcorn kernels (you can get a most grocery stores). They are very festive and subtle if you don’t want to add too much decorations for the holiday. You can try this with corn kernels as well.

DIY Wall & Other Decor

The great thing about these crafts is that you can hang or put them almost anywhere in your apartment and they are the perfect amount of festive to get you in the fall and Thanksgiving spirit.

Hanging Glitter Leaves

These glitter leaves to hang somewhere in your apartment are perfect for fall and Thanksgiving. They are very unique, so they will definitely impress your family and friends, especially when they find out you made them yourself.

They are fairly easy to make and you only need a few products from the craft store to add them to your wall. You can find the full instructions here.

Fall Thanksgiving Tree

If you just can’t wait to put your Christmas tree up, but don’t want all the glares from family and friends when they say “it’s too early,” this Thanksgiving decoration is the one for you. These fall Christmas-like trees are adorable and can make your home feel so cozy for the Thanksgiving season.

This decoration is a little more on the difficult side and will take a fair amount of time to create, but trust me, it will be time well spent! Find the full instructions here.

Turkey Wreath

This turkey wreath is great for the outside or inside of your apartment door or even your door to your own room. This wreath does need quite a bit of time and patience, so if you are a crafty type of person you most likely won’t having a problem and will enjoy making it.

However, if your apartment door is outside, I would not suggest leaving it in cold or wet weather. You can get all these materials at any craft store for pretty cheap.  For the full list of materials and instructions for the adorable turkey wreath, go here.

Good luck decorating and Happy Turkey Day!
