Make Your Smoke-Free Campus Event A Reality With truth®
Did you know that more than 99 percent of current smokers begin the habit before age 27?
College campuses across the country are fighting back against tobacco by becoming tobacco-free. Across the U.S., 1,620 schools have implemented 100 percent smoke-free policies to help reduce the uptake of smoking in young people.
This past summer, truth — the most successful and longest running national youth smoking prevention campaign — helped celebrate Syracuse University’s tobacco-free campus policy. Now, according to a recent press release, truth is challenging college students like you across the U.S. to create a short video about a smoke-free event you want to host on your campus.
Once you make your video, post it to YouTube or Twitter by November 6 with #truthatyourcampus. Up to five students with the most creative and inspiring ideas will win a pack of truth merch to help them throw the best smoke-free party their campus has ever seen.
As college students, truth recognizes your ability to lead on your campus and encourages you to use your creativity to host public, smoke-free events on your campus this fall to help spread the word that this generation can be the one to end tobacco use for good.
According to the press release, Truth Initiative — a national public health organization dedicated to achieving a culture where all youth and young adults reject tobacco, and director of the truth campaign — is working with 38 community colleges and 33 Historically Black Colleges and Universities to educate students, staff and faculty about the consequences of tobacco and pushing to help the schools adopt 100 percent smoke or tobacco-free policies.
truth exposes the tactics of the tobacco industry, the truth about addiction and the health effects and social consequences of smoking by giving teens facts to make their own informed choices about tobacco use and inspiring them to use their social influence to fight against tobacco.
